We realize that we are fortu- nate to be students in Sundown Schools. So, we did not celebrate our 50th birthday by blowing out can- dles, but by lighting them, not by receiving gifts, but by giving them. We want THE GOLDEN YEAR to be only the beginning as we contemplate future progress. m. t, ,N .,. The remaining 51,400 was spent to drill a well and furnish a windmill, desk, and other equipment necessary to initiate the school. Lasater - Superintendent, Nick Williams - Business Manager CBack rowj Larry Runnels, Terry Warren, Gene Nugent - Secretary, Jim Hogue - President fFront rowb Dorothy Soules, Jay McCullough and William Clements - Vice President The ingredients of a good, productive school are basically the same as they were 50 years ago - leader- ship, genuinely interested in education, a dedicated teaching corps, a student body eager to learn, and a sup- portive parent and community involvement. We believe that Sundown Schools have all of these ingredients. And, if during THE GOLDEN YEAR and each successive year, we plan wisely, work diligently, devote ade- quate time and thought to carrying out our purposes and program of work, our future will be greater than the past. New Boss Tackles Old Job The completion of the new educational facility is only the beginning of great experiences for Sundown students. Congratulations are in order for the citizens of Sundown and the emphasis they have placed on Sundown's future growth and the education of today's youth. A pro- p gram of opportunities to match the facility should be the next step in l bringing to Sundown quality education for tomorrow's citizens. SUPERINTENDENT OF 3.4.4251 scHooLs f Mr. G. D. When we were freshmen the band won the first Sweepstakes Award in many years. As juniors we conducted fund raising events in order to finance the Junior- Senior Banquet. But, our senior year has been the highlight. This year we were able to take the first senior trip in twenty- one years. On this trip we traveled to Six Flags, in Arlington, Texas, for the special senior night. As graduation approaches we look into the future with anticipation tinged with sadness for the past of our lives which is ending. We have enjoyed our years at SHS. ELSIE visits our school. How didyou do it EIsie??? Games 1978-79 was a high-low year for SPORTS. Losing came more often than coaches, players, and fans would like to have seen it, however we stayed in there and fought to the very end. The ability to hold our heads high, even when we left the gym.or the stadium with a loss, did not come easily, but it did come!! We upheld the motto, Sportsmanship, then Victory. We thank our fans for their loyal support. Just suppose for a moment that the stands were empty, that no shout of enthusiasm rewarded exceptional good plays, that no jeer of derision put new determination into faint hearts and new vigor into failing arms and legs. Their confidence in us was encouraging. They were our joy in time of victory, our consolation in defeat, and our inspiration at all times. L.C. KEARNEY TRUCKING AND SERVICING - SUNDOWN, TEXAS Cheerleaders Games would have been dull indeed without Cheerleaders to keep our spirits high. These girls were seen before, dur- ing, and after games - a blaze of red, white, and blue, cheering the players. Their skits for pep rallies, the hall dec- orations, and the long hours of prepara- tion did not go unnoticed. We commend them for a job well done.
