u X I. A v I E ' Ssgs History of the Freshman Class On June tenth, nineteen hundred twenty-six, one hundred and ninety- two pupils of Central Grammar were awarded their diplomas on Com- mencement Night. This group represented tl1e nucleus of the next year's Freshman Class of Sunbury High School. Already, in their minds and hearts, they were members of High School, an ideal for which they had -- striven for the space of eight long years or more was to be realized. ' Almost four months later the same nine score and twelve assembled in their rooms, augmented by other pupils from last year's Freshman Class, and by those from rural communities. They had at last become Freshmen! Upper classmen were looked upon with awe and wonder, yet the ttsupei-iors realized that, in due time, the verdant o11es would become their successors in inheriting the best free education an American city can offer. ' Soon the newly initiated members of High were working out their daily routine with orderly U1 precision, but yet they were not an or- ganized group 0f.St'll0l3.PS. Accordingly, the .ttCivics Clubs were formed a11d a Constitution drawn up. Soon the llldlVldlli1l roll-call sections N followed this example and then the class officers were chosen in the customary manner by 'tsecret ball-ot. The ideals of self-government for which the United States stands, were thus established and good citizen- ship was duly stimulated, in order that the well-taught ttmen and women of tomorrow may help our country become a better democracy. . S , Q In all campaigns and school-benefits the Freshmen Class did its part and consequently, its members rose in the esteem of the upper- classmen. Many pupils contributed to the success of the sports in which ws N2 sg dear old S. H. S. participated, while others pursued their scholastic duties in order that the intellectual standards of the Class be raised. lVe are now t'full-iiedgedw members of Sunbury High, and let us, as true Freshmen, soon to be Sophomores, make the motto for our further pursuits: Semper Iidelis, semper paratusf' Robert Hackett ?30. shlsi R Nl IS i ,... - S N NN :ivy X Y 2 X : .. ,S - R , Page 58
