Q I 2 2 E . xxxxxxxwwwwxm xxxxxxxm X Y w History of the Scientific Section In the Fall of '23, when the portals of dear old S. H. S. were thrown open to the Umeek and lowly Freshmen, a large number decided to make the Scientific Course their forte during their High School Career. w-'sz Eats During the first year, undaunted by the taunts of the upper class- men and none the worse for the pranks played upon us, we studied dili0'ently in the hope of winning a secure footing which might fit us for X955 O the next three years. As the months passed we became more accustomed S to our change in environment until we were rewarded, at the end of the year, by the reality that we were no longer mere Freshies. As Sophomores, new interests were taken in our surroundings. We contributed boys and girls to the various activities, both scholastoc and athletic, developing fine material for the years to follow. Even though the 'fgreenv might still have been faintly detected, we competed in various contest rankinv' hiffh and showing we truly belonged to Soon after this we were full-fledged Juniors, realizing more and more the need to participate in the affairs and contests of the school which might aid in preparing us for the real life of the future. The section increased, due to changes in courses, until it was composed of fifty per cent of the entire class, thus indicating, that, as each year passed, more desire was created to continue our education. Moreover, U 5 . . . - Er' 5 XS each did his art in the benefits socials, bazaars and plays conducted to X P 5 x raise funds for the Iunior Senior Banquet Then dawned an important year! Seniors! It was necessary now NN to put aside all foolishness, to assume our part as leaders, to further xi cooperate with all, to increase our efforts to reach our goal, and to gxss help make our class one of the best to graduate. The time draws near when the true test will come. VVill we fail or will we prove our time was not spent in vain? Only the future can tell, but the materials and the ambitions are there, in truth we seem ...- - . :Sei X lacking only 111 experience which comes with practice and hard labor, and which, we feel sure, will act as an incentive and not as a detriment. In these four short vea-rs life-long friendships have been formed, many talents have beentdiscovered, but the future will tell if they are developed and if the goal has been attained. Some will take heed from their elders, Others will fall by thctsideg But the ultimate test comes Wheii one by one, ss . . They succeed 111 keeping the stride. S Sm N History of the Commercial Section It was a warm September morning, in 1923, when lo! we, as Fresh- men, entered this 'fllicturesque Sunbury High Schoolj' to begin our journey, which was to last four long years. At that time they seemed long, but my-how short they really were! This is the story of our travels through the four yearls jouirney- VVe were introduced to Dr. J. VV. Weete1', our principal the first year, and we at once left him know of our intentions to become efficient t'stenogs and bookkeepers. Our classes were organized at the beginning of the term and all set ot work with a will. At last, after what seemed ages and ages, the last month arrived-and also examinations. Finally everything was over and we passed into the Sophomore Class. VVe entered into our Sophomore year with a brighter outlook. Everything was a Hpath-of-roses. XVc started struggling with the funny looking characters in a study, called Shorthand. Bookkeeping was an- other f'dreadful study, which caused many nightmares andfnervous breakdowns. It seemed just as though every teacher was trying to 'icraml' them into our heads. After struggling for nine long months, at these horrid studies, examinations-and at last Vacation. Then we became 'tJolly Juniors and had thc chance to 'frazzll the Freshmen. This was the year in which the Commercial students had many thrilling events, both in the classroom and outside. YVe all tugged and tugged for the climax-the Ju11ior-Senior Prom. Although we, as Commercials, had plenty of fun in our Junior year, the best was yet to come, when we would become Seniors. VVithi the experience we had gained in the past three years, we were III-Oulidtid--li1llLO the best Senior Commercial Class ever to graduate from Sunbury High. During this illustrious year we had had experience in what real business means. Besides carrying on a real live business of our OVVII in class, we did outside work for others and so got experience in working for and pleasing other people. WVe really enjoyed doing this work too, because it carried us just that much closer to our goal of being efficient 'tstenogsf' It was this great spirit which had prevailed in all of us these four short years, with which we accomplished so very many great deeds. And now-Farewell dear S. H. S. Emily Everett '27.
