Some grind and. study to learn history, To some equations are the great mystery. Many enioy playiing softball and tennis, Others do not try and so end up a menace. School' to me means a needed education To give me the key to the future generation. -Cathy Gilpin ik IK ik 111 Ill SPRING Spring in the time of the earth's greeni life, springing forth from the dark, dark soil-, reaching ever reaching for the life existing above. The days lengthen, becoming warmer and warmer beneath the sun's rich golden glow. The heat becomes awesome and the water scarce, but the green life of spring fights for the life which the earth cannot refuse. Time rolls forward until the lazy winds of autumn stroll along. They creep about as if they wished to go about their way unseen. The leaves of gold, red, and orange fall forth from the trees, floating down, ever down until they come to the earth and their mother seed's be- ginning. ' Soon come the winds of the terrible winter howling ,and screaming as a giant seeking a one who can defile him. The earth grows colder as the snow falls heavily from the heavens above, The green, of the spring has long since disappeared and longs to return to the days of the warmth and the soft cool breezes of the summer and' the spring. Time rolls onward. The sun's golden glow returns, melting the winter's snow and soaking the earth with the sweet, cold moisture of the winter's passing. The water sinks deeply into the frozen earth and the sun warms the ground with a wonderful feeling of life to come. Then suddenlyi, as if the clock of time were in reverse, blades of green spring forth from the barren browni of the earth. lt is these blades of green that mark now the coming of spring, bringing new life and new hope for the green of this, the' next year. -Freeman E. Miller PK X wk is ill THE 1988 REUNION Hi! This is your very own Around-the-World reporter, Laura Hellani- thal here to tell you what's happening while it happens. Today, l'm reporting from our very own A9 Quad at Sun Valley Juniior High. We are all here for our 1988 Reunion. Let's see if we can recognize some people. Why, there is our very own Johnny Muglia, Governor of California. I would go over and talk to him but he seems to be surrounded' by guards. He always was shy. Standing right next to that cute guard is Nancy Caudill, Girls' Golf Pro! And over there byi the benches are Janice Morein, Patti Perry, Mary Khoury, June Tabanera, Yvonne Alvarez, Shirley Rogers, .lean Peters, Kathlees Rogers, Linda Hoskinson, and Karen Burton., The Rochets! They iust finished their nation-wide appearance on the Tony Leitheiser Show ! You know, the show that very prominent comedian Paul Modrell has. Oh, by the way, Linda and Karen have just tied in the Longest- Hair-in-the-World contest! How exciting this is! Why, over there in the corner, talking to Barbara Kegg, that girl with the sweetest personality, is Carol Keller, Miss America! Hello, Miss Keller, Would you like to say something to our friends? Well, hello, darlings! Would you like a Coke? Ah, no thank you . . . Say l do believe there are Barbara Daven- port and Laura Hall, the Summer Oly-mpics Champion Swimmers. Talking to them is Karla Butt, that famous doctor who iust successfully ampu- tated a leg from a girl an-d accidentally transplanted it on a boy. There's Susan Clifford that real cool airline stewardess. She caused several people to- be sucked out of a pressurized cabin when she forgot to shut the door upon takeoff. Oh well -. Over there under that tree are my old friends Donna Rufener, Carol Heathcote and Elaine Benwell, and l see they're talking to Judy Smith, the famous lady wrestler. Let's go over to talk to them. Hi there! I hear they've made you a P.E. teacher at West Point Military Academy, Carol. Yes, it's a lot of fun. l'll bet! What about you Donna? Elaine? We are private secretaries at a U.S. Marine Base. How nice . . . Say what's that commotion over there? Oh, l see. lt's UCLA's famous cheerleading team. lt looks like Diane and Linda Owen, Pam Roberts and Sharon Richards. They're performing for that famous UCLA team the Mightyt Midgets. They are Keven' Shibuya, Med Mosher, Ernest Roque, Richard Willard, Richard Schulman, Bob Lavalle, Rivo Trubak and Mike Scott. Boy! lt looks like there's something going on in every corner! Oops, excuse me . . . Why it's Sally Eccles, Mike Bracken, and Charles Childers, those famous writers. Sally's and Mike's books have been compared to Shakespeare, and Charles' book, Super Herz has sold over a million copies! Oh dear, it seems we're all out of time. Before l go l must say that Sun Valley Jr, High must be the best school in- the country. Just look at all the great people it turned out! Well, we must go, so until next time, this is Laura Hellenthal your Around-the-World reporter, reporting from Sun Valley Jr. High 1988 reunion. - Laura Hellenthal lk lk Pk ik 114 PERSONALITY CHART lMatch your first and last initialsl Awkward Aardvark Bouncing Buzzard Clumsy Crocodile l Dilapidated Devilfish Effervescent Eland Fluky Flounder Grotesque Gopher Homogenized Hyena Intoxicated Ichneumon Jabbering Jackal Know-nothing Kingfish Looney Louse Mischievous Muskrat Naked Narwhale Opulent Orangutang Playful Pack Rat Quizzical Quail Rambunctious Rattlesnake Soprozoic Salamander Terrible Tarantula Useless Unicorn Venomous Vampire 3 Wasteful Wort Hog Xanthic Xenobiosis N Youthful Yaud , Zizzing Zibet - Charles Childers, Michael Bracken ik lk ik lk Bk THE OCEAN The ocean is a great body of salt-water that covers about three- fourths of the earth's surface, says Webster's Dictionary. But to me the ocean is more than that. The ocean is the home for billions of sea-going creatures. Micro- scopic to gigantic creatures reside there. The vegetation is brilliantly decorated as if an artist used every color on his palette to paint the ocean's floor. The ocean is an important transportation route, on which trade, commerce and iust pleasant traveling takes place every day. The ocean has many moods. At times it can be as peaceful as a placid lake. But it also can be as violent as a jungle-full of hungry lions. lt can be calm until one day, like an army of wild- Indians, it can break forth to do as much damage as an atomic bomb. But when it is in one of its good moods, the ocean can br.ing en- ioyment into the lives of millions of people. There is nothing more romantic and spectacular than a beautiful sunset lit horizon hanging over the great ocean. - Howard Peckman
