Thank you, Dune! As a token of our appreciation, we, rhe Class of '84, dedicare our yearbook ro you. 2 BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY From quodroric equorions ro soccer vicrories, Mr Owsley hos done o greor service for the doss of 1984 in borh on academic and an arhlertc way In rhe classroom, he helps us comprehend rhe sometimes cryptic focers of math He answers our puzzled stores wirh a bit of humor as he gives us rhe key ro understanding He donares valuable rime ro guide our ream ro rhe playoffs and a championship For his support before and ofrer 2 15, rhe class of 1984 would like ro give Joe” a much deserved rhank you One man who is mosr deserving of our grarirude is Stephen Wilchensky. He voluntarily assumed rhe position os sponsor of rhe SPECTRUM, o posirion ridden wirh responsibilities and hard work He proved his comperence by keeping order where chaos would have been, and worked closely wirh all members ro improve every facer of our yearbook. Few people could hove raken on such o rask while also sponsoring rhe school newspaper and rhe Debate Club Yer he mastered ir's complexities and succeeded in creating a yearbook from many divergenr ideas From rhe class of 1984, and especially from rhe SPECTRUM staff, we heartily give you rhante. Throughout our three years in Sun Volley, rhere hove been many changes in adminisrrorion. The only man present from our naive sophomore days ro our enlightened senior days is Mr. Kennerh Dolyard He could be seen or pep rallies, class meetings, and assemblies announcing rhe speakers, keeping rhe peace and cleaning up rhe organizarional mess rhor arises in such situations. Alrhough Mr. Dolyard may nor always convey ir ro rhe srudenr body, his actions ore morivar ed by his concern for us and our inreresrs For rhese reasons, rhe doss of 1984 owes him a warm rhank you. Caroline Fedeno, our guidance counselor, deserves much credit and appreciation from our senior doss She overcame much difficulty by successfully raking over rhe helm for Mr Diehl, who counseled us in our sophmore and junior years Alrhough she did nor know our nomes, personalities, or life goals in September of 1983, she quickly familiarized herself wirh rhe srudenr body and did much ro sreer us in rhe direction of our dreams From SAT preparations ro rhe college admissions information, she rruly did o spectacular job. She deserves sincere rhanlss from rhe class of 1984 J GREAT EXPECTATIONS PROUD MEMORIES Our sophomore year - some soy ir wirh o sigh; others think of ir os ondenr rimes; still others wipe their foreheads wirh relief for getting through ir. The common factor is rhor we will oil re- member that yeor forever Our ner vousness on the first day, the excite- ment of o new place wirh new faces, our times of struggling through rhe school yeor, and rhe relief we all felt after our lost final exom will only be some of rhe memories of 1982 that will be embedded in our minds for o life rime. Deing sophomores meant finally or rending high school ond or lost becom ing young adults; in addition, ir implied the most important fact in everyone's mind: only two more years to go! Our sophomore yeor also denoted pride The junior varsity soccer ream achieved o record of 13-T1 while rhe girls cross country ream went undefeated The wrestling ream earned second ploce in the Del-Val A league wirh o record of 17-1-1. The football ream hod an 8 ond 3 season despite many injuries, ond their biggest supporters - rhe bond - accom- plished o remarkable feor of their own completing a hot trick by becoming rhe Group III Arlonric Coast Champions. Our sophomore yeor was also made memorable by everything happening outside of Sun Volley or rhe rime On rhe inrernorionol scene, Prince Charles ond Lody Di were married, ond El Solvo dor become o hot issue. On rhe narionol scene, rhe U S. sent o shuttle into space, rhe baseball players went on srrike, ev eryone ployed PocMon ond Rubies cubes were sold by rhe millions. Closer to home, the Rolling Stones sold our JFK Stadium during o tour no one will for get, ond coble television wos being in stalled in many homes in Aston, Brook hoven ond Porkside Endless Love ond “Stop Dragging My Heart Around topped rhe singles chorr, while Torro You ond Delia Donna reigned on rhe album chorr. Everyone sow Raiders of rhe Lost- Ark ond Arrhur,” ond no one missed on episode of MASH or Three's Company.” All of rhe men- tioned evenrs contributed to making our sophomore yeor unique and odd ing pungency to our proud memories. 4 Ir was rhe best of rimes, ir was rhe worst of rimes.1 Rob Dusby Mike Sulkvon None of us will ever forger our Junior year We were rhe middle class in Sun Valley We hod finally earned rhe re- specr rhar we were denied as sopho- mores, bur we did nor have all of rhe responsibiliry rhar rhe seniors had We were rold rhar our Junior year was our mosr imporranr academic year We hod ro keep our grades up and push ourselves for jusr a lirrle longer. Scholasrically ir was a rough year We hod ro rake PSAT's, SAT's, and Achieve menr resrs. Morif, Sun Valley's lirerary magazine, and our school newspaper. The Voice of rhe Volley, were borh revived and enjoyed success. Sun Val ley had a Debore ream for rhe firsr rime ever. Alrhough no one believed ir, Car narion Day, afrer a long, long delay finally came. WMMR come ro our school ond rocked Sun Valley for rwo exciring dances The Honor Sociery had a volleyball mararhon ro benefir rhe Ronald McDonald House, and our Junior Prom wos a grear success. Our sporrs reams had a grear year also Our Wres rlmg and Soccer reams were Champi- ons The Scorr's Hi-Q ream, Sun Volley's quiz ream, rriumphed in rhe home meer! Our Junior year was memorable nor jusr in evenrs or Sun Valley bur also in evenrs around rhe world. '‘Return of rhe Jedi came ro rhe Silver Screen, completing rhe saga of rhe firsr Srar Wars trilogy Eddie Murphy soared ro stardom Many concerrs were given Rush, Van Halen, Journey, and David Bowie all come ro Philadelphia. Junior Closs Officers Ve were greatly disappointed by rhe NFL players' strike, bur we were somewhar consoled by rhe forming of rhe USFL Our 76ers were champions of rhe world and were given a mammorh parade in celebration!!! Finally, or rhe seniors' graduarion, we reflected on a greor Junior Year and realized, with ex clremenr and anridporion, Hey, we are nexr,” Ir is q far, far better place that I go than I have ever known. As early as June of our junior year, we looked forword wirh grear anricipa- rion ro our losr year in high school. We eagerly awoired September sevenrh, for us, rhe beginning of rhe end. On our first doy, we held our much hope for rimes ro be remembered ond plans for rhe future ro be mode All oroud us, our world grew hostile Korean flight 007 was shot our of rhe sky, killing over fifty Americans. In Octo- ber, os rhe leaves were turning orange, over rwo hundred Americans died in Lebanon during a suicide rerrorisr bomb- ing Shortly afrer rhor shock, we learned rhar over 6,000 American rroops invad- ed rhe small Caribbean island of Gren- ada. Ar home and abroad, concern over rhe possibiliry of nuclear armaged- don increased. Bur rhese evenrs were roo far removed ro seriously worry us. We intended ro sovor our lasr year, lerring nothing srop us from enjoying ourselves. Wirh rwo years behind us we had a confident feeling abour Sun Valley Fi- nally, we hod mastered our own lirrle corner of reality and, although some- times we did nor like ro admit ir, school offered a sense of security, a stable environment rhar never changed. We .knew rhar soon we would hove ro face harsh realities, bur for now we intended ro have some fun in our lirrle micro- cosm. In everyrhing we did as Seniors, we had an eerie feeling ir would be rhe lasr rime. From foorball games ro pep rallies, everyrhing felr different. Many of us were busy carefully plan- ning our furures. Some srudenrs were concerned wirh college admission and wirh college cosrs, orhers looked for ways ro enter rhe job marker righr afrer high school. Somehow, everyrhing jusr seemed ro fall inro place as June rolled around When we walked down rhe isle, and our names were read or graduarion, we hod a feeling our nai- viry was shed and we were now adulrs In rhar emotionally charged mo- ment, we saw some sense in ir all. 10 Aim for Excellence Congrarulorions ro the Class of 19841 I hope rhar rhe academic, exrra curricular, and social experiences rhar have been provided for you in rhe Penn Delco schools hove given you a solid founda lion on which ro build rhe resr of your life.
