Faculty and Administration ......... 6. DEDICA TION When all shadows disappear and light illuminates every corner This is the moment when time stands still and the world watches in awe . . . From our first day at Sun Valley in September, 1976, Mr. Allen Muller has devoted more than his share of time, patience, and understanding to us as a teacher, advisor, and most importantly, as a friend. Mr. Muller always made himself available to students for help either during or after school. He single-handedly organ- ized and directed the Senior Variety Show and sacrificed much of his time to make sure that everything was in order for all the proms. For this and so much more, we are indebted to you; and, as a token of our appreciation, we dedicate our yearbook to you. 4 IN APPRECIATION When our days were cl And the rain washed away our hopes. But they will also include a clearer understanding of I the advantages of an eaaafyjiQn in Sun Valley High School. fig However, what you have learned at school, valuable as it I may be, is only a beginning. The end of your high school work 8 merely means the commencement of those experiences that will put to the test the sound principles you have learned in Sun Valley High School. During that time I have come to know many of you very well, and I have enjoyed watch- ing your development from sophomore to senior. The Class of 1979 has experienced a difficult and disjointed year; however, the class has been able to compile achievements and reach distinc- tions in academics and activities. The class has responded to the extra demands placed upon it for leadership, maturity, and pose. You have achieved unity through the strength and concern of your leaders and the cooperation and sensi- tivity of individuals. You have responded successfully to tremendous challenges during your three years at Sun Valley. I trust that the maturing and growing that you have done will aid you throughout your life and that, you will remember your three years at Sun Valley fondly. I wish you continued success in life. Charles B. Fitzgerald Principal CHARLES R FIT7GFRAI D Principii! of Sun Valley High School Perhaps the single most respected figure at Sun Valley is our principal, Mr. Charles Fitzgerald. He has been our guiding source of strength throughout the three years since he came to us. Dignified, refined, and helpful, he has at all times been available to work out our problems, counsel us, and make the best decisions concerning our individual welfare. In his position as principal and friend, we ha ve depended on his leadership. A prin- cipal's duties are almost limitless, extending from early morning parent consultations to late after- noon disciplinary actions. Mr. Fitzgerald has done all this and much more. This year especially, he expanded his responsibilities. Always striving to enhance our education and ourselves, Mr. Fitz- gerald will be best remembered by the Class of 1979 for the individual attention he paid to each one of us. 9 OFFICE • KENNETH P. Appre- hensive and insecure, we struggled to make ourselves a reputation as a class. One of our most memorable effort s that year was our Soph Hop. Remember the class meeting we had where it was so easy to decide on the theme of We May Never Pass This Way Again 0 But remember, too, all the frustration that came whertwe set out to decorate for this theme. It didn't matter though, when March thirteenth came and anxious couples settled down for an evening of dancing to the music of Beginnings and a delicious dinner. ft rr JUNIOR PROM One of the hardest undertakings of our Junior Year was transforming the gym into a prom by April fifteenth. But leave it to the ingenuity of our class officers and we were blessed with one of the most successful and beautiful proms ever to take place at Sun Valley. Our first step on “The Long And Winding Road” led us through a covered bridge, into a gazebo, along daisy fields, and past snow-covered mountains. Dancing under skies of blue to the music of Whale” roused our appetites for the after prom. Our parents had secretly decorated the cafeteria to the theme of Send In The Clowns. ” Bright yellows, reds, greens, and blues greeted us at the door and down faces and balloons covered the walls and ceiling. Then, as we settled down to dinner, we were enter- tained with the music of “Stevie. ” Thanks to the students and parents, the Junior Prom was one unforgettable evening of fun and enjoyment. r 37 Hopkins Patty Palermo i ' ?' - ■f 1 cvcn,nf ladies and gentlemen. Sun Valley has certainly provided us with our share of memories and experiences. As sophomores we were quickly initiated to the ways of high school — A, B, and C lunches, detentions, harder course loads. From our junior year we can all cling to the memories of the championship wrestling and football teams, our Junior Prom, the newly forming Disco Craze, and our individual decisions about just what we wanted to do with our lives. Finally, our senior year represented the stretch around the bend that always comes right before the finish line. Circumstances beyond our control caused us to get off to a slow start, but we shouldn t hesitate to credit ourselves for not let- ting conditions keep us down. We met many obstacles, but most importantly, we met these obstacles TOGETHER. The class of '79 has a lot going for it as we start off a new life — a life separate from the halls and classrooms of Sun Valley. JEFFREY FRANCIS ADAMEK Jeff Plumber What's up? When all seemed lost, they were able to arouse a sense of spirit within the student body Despite a disappointing football season, the cheer- leaders continued to lead the fans in rousing cheers of support. Throughout the entire year, they built pride and faith in our school at basketball games, wrestling matches, and pep rallies, othing could stop them, not even the freezing cold nights at outdoor games or the hoarse voices so easily acquired when screaming out their spirit. What were theI major factors behind this year's cheerleading squads? Motivation, enthusiasm, and school spirit. Spirit is their game and Sun Valley High School Cheerleaders is I their name. W L 4 T I L C • ■r The Sun Valley Vanguards were not destined to win the championship in 1978, but the team should certainly be given credit considering the circumstances. The season got off to a good enough start with summer practices and scrimmages under regular conditions. But because of the extended teachers’ strike, the regular coaches handed jin their resignations. After several weeks of forfeited games interim coaches—Mr. Bolyard, Mr. Michael, and Mr Know!ton, volunteered in an effort to regain the fighting Van- guard spirit. Unfortunately, the team suf- fered because of (he lost time. Neverthe- less, 1978 will be a memorable season, especially for those seniors who were given the opportunity to play. GIRLS' HOCKEY K Desire was flying high as the team awaited their chance to play. Led by a large and tal- ented group of Seniors, the girls gave a hard fight to any- one who dared to cross their path. They practiced day in and day out—their season so short, but their ambition and determination so great!!! Remember: Hockey Camp . . . Underclassmen JUNIORS The Junior Class has made it one step closer in becoming the Graduating Class of 1980. After a somewhat slow starting year, the Juniors banned together and worked hard on making this year a success. They survived the PSAT’s, the Kuder Occupational Test, and the arguments and long hours of planning for the prom. But, in the end, all of their frustrations paid off. On April 21st, the couples, with their “Two Tickets to Paradise,” attended the Junior Prom. The Senior Class of 1979 wishes the Jun- ior Class much luck and success in their last year at Sun Valley. They went for four months without the help and assistance of an advi- sor or officers. But with this problem finally solved, the Sophomores set out to make the best of what time they had left. They became involved in many activities including the making and planning of the Soph Hop. The Soph- omores can be proud of the way they were able to handle these unexpected difficulties and should have no trouble making their final years at Sun Valley successful. The Senior Class of 1979 would like to wish the Soph- omore Class much luck and success in their next two years at Sun Valley. SITTING: Robyn Aricrs. Treasurer. FIRST ROW: Christine Peterson. Hutton ASTON GLASS COMPANY ft 0 w 185 ________ A CKNO WLEDGEMENTS We, the 1979 Spectrum Staff, have tried to create a yearbook which will allow us to remember our years spent at Sun Valley High School. However, we would have been unable to produce such a book without the assistance of many individuals. To Mrs. Marguerite MacDonald, who enabled us to start progressing toward our goal; to the secretaries, Mrs. Jean McBain, Mrs. Ruth Win- bourn, and Mrs. Ruth Rhoads, who were always there to lend a hand; to many seniors, who con- tributed a great deal even though they were not members of the Spectrum Staff; to Zamsky's Studios, who went out of their way to deliver pictures to us . . . in record time; to Mr. Charles Fitzgerald, who so graciously gave us the support we needed when our goal seemed unattainable; and finally, to Mr. William O'Brien ofJostcn’s American Yearbook Company, who willingly gave of his knowledge, guidance, and time — making it possible for us to complete this yearbook; to these, we gratefully extend our sincere gratitude. In these pages lie the memories of those things too special to be forgotten. We have tried to cap- ture the life that has been ours for the last three years—years filled with hardships as well as achievements. Now, as we reflect upon these times, we realize how we have grown together. Like the sun, we have progressed through our cycle— from dawn to dusk; from insecure sophomores to seniors ready to face new horizons. Obviously clouds have darkened our paths along the way, but when they eventually dissappeared, we could smile and truthfully say, “Here Comes The Sun! • V . _ . ■ - v.' ••• v it.: —C- •- ' • ' v-v , V , ’ % . v r • • • V % V .v • % V ' ' ' ' V .
