Exchange Students, 1971-72 Once again, bun Valley welcomed two new friends. They were Jasna Zagorac from Yugoslavia, and Jean-Marc Birraux, from France. Our exchange students this year joined the rest of the senior class in Septem- ber, and remained at Sun Valley for the en- tire school year. Jasna, who enjoys piano, studying lan- guages, and literature, and was a member of the French and Ski Clubs, found life at Sun Valley very different from that of her own high school. We do not change our classes every period as you do here. We also are not permitted to choose our courses. However, I feel we learn more with the required subjects in my school at home. Jean-Marc, who was also a member of the Ski Club, as well as the cross country and track teams, and a Spectrum photographer, came to us from a school in one of the larg- est cities of France. Of school in France, Jean says, Unlike here, we have a different schedule of classes every day; however, I think the system here is better. We start school at 8:00 a.m.; break from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., and finish school at 5:00 p.m. The tests here are too easy, in France they are too hard! Both of our exchange students agreed that the student-teacher relationship here is much more personal than in their own schools. Neither one had ever seen a pep ralley or a football game before coming to Sun Valley, and both looked forward to the various dances and proms. Of course, both missed family and friends, but most of all Jean missed his motorcycle. Without it, he had to stay home most of the time!
