And Now Tomorrow . . . A significant phase in the life of each senior is now begin- ning. Graduation from high school is not the ending, more correctly it is the beginning of a new venture whetiher it be a job in industry, further education, marriage, the armed services, or any one of many avenues open to you. VVhatever your goal, tl1e past is behind you, and now tomor- row beckons with its promises, its challenges, and its frustra- tions. How you meet it will determine your future. Sincerely yours, ' r Wm. G. Moser Superintendent of Schools w 6 . ' -r gras OJ i X possesses the ff' 0 f eoumge and U ' 1 . F3 'fi-1? if at lzile exercising 'KJ I ,J s of ez leader and an imiwkiuaist June 1, 1967 Your high school days are over. We are in the midst of a period where education and the achievements of the intellect are esteemed and pursued as in no other age. Many of you will enter college, others will find places in a variety of occupation- al fields, and some will serve our country in the military service. It is our hope that, during the years you have been with us, we have been able to assist you in developing the skills and abilities which you will find are necessary for solving the new and different problems which will confront you in the days to come. Yours has been an outstanding class. We think you have ap- plied yourselves well and have tried to take full advantage of your opportunities. But do not feel that now you can rest on your laurels. Continue to look for ways of improving yourselves. If you do, I am confident that each of you in his own way will be successful. ZQZ.-mf 72 di'7fCfL'w'77 ' s ' v ' had I ' tx jx 9 Q l W 'lA . NT I May we salute the Class of 1967 and late them on their success through the tion of this yearbook. It is a treasury from which school events of e past, present, and future may be drawn. This system of recording is enjoyed by all persons in our community as well as persons directly connect d with the senior class and the Sun Valley Seni r High. Arthur C. Kretz Assistant Superintendent Business 8 For the past twelve years you have been preparing for the time when you would be taking your place in society. For most of you this time has now arrived. It is my feeling that you have been adequately prepared, but only time will tell whether or not you can meet the chal- lenge ahead of you. I wish you luck and hope that you are a success in whatever Held you select to achieve your place in society. Arthur L. Knowlton Administrative assist- ant-Business J In the months to come you are going to be Hooded with advice. As seasoned ad- visees you are quite capable of listening to it as the occasion requires. It might be well to remember what Sophocles said: Do not-believe that you alone can be right. The man who thinks that, the man who maintains that only he has the power to reason correctly, turns out empty. Theodore F. Cramer-Administrative as- sistant-Special Services To The Class of '67: It has been a pleasure to work with a wonderful class. VVith students like you it's no ' wonder Sun Valley is the best . I hope we have given you our best and that you have come to realize that you should give your best in everything you do. If you do, you will have few regrets. Good luck in all that you undertake. K. P. Michael Assistant Principal Mrs. Anna. I. Vadino, O. Alan Wittkorn, Franklin W. Tumerg Fred I. Smeeton, Warren R. Pierce, Leon ll. Layton Congratulations on the occasion of your graduation from Sun Valley High Schoo . Let me quote a few lines from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in wishing ' you continuous happiness and success: Under a spreading chestnut tree The village smithv standsg The smit , a mighty man is he, With large and sinewy hands, He eams whate'er he can And looks the whole world in the face For he owes not any man. Harry M. Hill Administrative Assistant-Instruction Too many of us today are letting the other fellow do our thinking for us-what clothes to wear, what hours to work, what placards to carry, and even what people to dislike. If your generation is to solve the problems inherited from my generation you must leam to be persuaded by your personal determinations of what is 1'ight and wrong rather than by mass emotionalism. You will need to have a better respect for your fellow man than does my generation. You will need a stronger faith in God. Sun Valley High School sends you forth to make our wor d a better place for all. Cod- speed I Walter M. Each has gained more than knowledge, as this year we have taken upon ourselves the maturity that is necessary to step into our places in life. As each of us goes his separate way, may God bless every one of you While in pursuit of happiness and success. Sincerely to my friends, Robert Wesley Casey Ir. President of the Class of 1967 Senior class officers: Tom Tatum-V.P., Adeline Cirilli-Hist., Vicki Merry- man-Sec., Tony Marchigiani-Tres., Advisors-Mrs. Durst and Mr Downey in memariam The world remembers Einstein, Michelangelo, and Babe Ruth- and true, their achievements will always be remembered. Eric Scott Hoover was not one of these men, yet does that make him less significant? For what greater achievement can a man have than the friendship of his fellow I man. We will always remember Ricky as our friend, with the assurance that he was taken from us to serve God in His kingdom as perhaps only he , can. 79 senior class history 1967. Under the watchful eye of Virgo, the Senior Class started off in the final year. We remember our first day as Seniors. Oh, how proud we were! NVe strutted up and down, basking in the envious admiration of the underclassmen. However, the effect gradually wore offg the novelty was gone. To be sure, we were still proud, but we thought it rather becoming to assume a gracious and humble manner. These are our memories . . . how sweet, how magical . . . VVhy we can remember . . . Our Sophomore year sped merrily by. Under the guidance of Mr. john Koenig and Mrs. Frances Durst, we undertook the elections of our officers. VVe chose David Bean as President. As his assistants, we elected Donna Drinnam as Vice President, Nancy Neubert as secretary, and Denny Lewis as tresurer. To finance our activities, we sponsored a dance and a cookie sale. The social highlight of this year was the Soph Hop. We danced to the music of the Classics under the romantic atmosphere of Stardust The summer of 1965 had come and gone, and we looked to our junior year. Ad- vising us this year was Mr. Francis Downey and Mrs. Frances Durst. Once again, we elected officers. Daniel VVells served as our President. To aid the president in carrying out his duties were: Donna Drinnan-Vice President, Nancy Neubert-sec- retary, and Frank Vaskelis-treasurer. The month of October brought with it the joy and excitement of receiving our Class rings. Everyone anticipated their arrival and soon the school was echoing with tum my ring. Yes, the juniors had received their most prized possessions . . . their class rings. By April the long-awaited event occurred . . . our jimior Prom. Rudy DeFelise and his orchestra accented the night with mystical hamiony, which no one who attended will ever forget. The theme Sayonara did not mean good-bye to us, it meant an evening filled with enchant- ment. The last part of May was set aside for Senior pictures. By this time, juniors were making preparations to begin their Senior year. Only time stood in the way. Finally, after a summer filled with working at jobs and a good time, our final step up the ladder of education approached. Seniors at last. After two years of anticipation, the big day came. September ninth and back to school. Everyone looked forward to a very successful year and no one was disappointed. On October 12, 1966, Senior pictures were distributed. These keepsakes were cherished mementos of lingering friendship. The sports calendar promised a very challenging season, and with a log of Eve wins and three losses, the football team looked to the big Homecoming Game and a powerful Penncrest team. We might have lost the game, but the Homecoming Dance made up for it. The school had voted the previous week on the Homecoming Queen. The candidates chosen for the court were Donna Craft, Domia Drinnan, Phyllis Eagle, janet Green, Denise Hopkins, Donna Ives, and Vicki Merryman. Donna Craft was elected as Homecoming Queen to reign over the game and the dance the following night. Drawing nearer still was the Christmas season. Completing the activities for 1966 was the Christmas Ball. This formal dance is sponsored each year by Student Coun- cil. NVhat a beautiful sight to see our gym transformed from a common place of competition to a lovely, exotic dreamland. january 1967, our class moved into its final six months of school. Excitement was moimting as plans were being made for the Senior Prom. At a class meeting we decided on a date. May 20. Time was moving rapidly. january 1 and May 19, seemed as one week. Our very special night was only twenty-four hours away. As last minute details were attended to, the Falcon House was preparing for us. The night of the Senior Prom was more than perfect. Our very special night had come, and everyone there was looking forward to a night that will be remembered as the most cherished experience of their high school career. But at last, all beautiful dreams must end. Memories are now the only thing left of a dream come true. VVith the prom concluded, plans were being made for the Senior Class Trip. This was another event long to be remembered. On this note, the Senior Class is once more retumed to the ranks, each to go his separate way. Proms, trips, dances, all cherished memories, are now embedded in each mind as our year ends- 1967. 80 class Wills' I, Wayne Anderson, will my car to Gary Winbourn. The 1967 Spectrum has giv- en us this satisfaction. To us it has meant hard work and long hours, but also lasting friendships and new responsibilities. Throughout the year,Gcountless persons have sacrificed their time and energy in trying to make this a successful book. To those people we would like to express our sincere appreciation for all they have done for us and for the Spectrum. Our special thanks go to Mrs. Dora Grgurich who has helped us in every possible way and who has instilled in us the obligation to fulfill our responsibilities, and to Mr. Tom Grgurich for his patience, aid, and advice, to our Staff for their hard work and perseverance, to Linda Mitchell who has been part of our typing staff, to the Photography Staff for their time and energy, to Mrs. Goldberg and the Business Staff for their efforts in financing the yearbook, to the Administration and the faculty for their assistance and cooperation, to Zamsky Studios for their excellent pho- tography and the processing of our pictures, to Mr. and Mrs. Hoover, to Mr. Craley, to our par- ents, to all those who have supported the Spectrum, and finally to Him who has given us the strength to accomplish our task.
