The United States is a maritime nation with national interests which today extend the world over. The Navy and Marine Corps team combines the offensive strength, mobility and endurance to Operate virtually anywhere in the world where those interests are located. So this cruise book truly represents a segment in the execution of national policy. MARC 2-81 functions as the first line of defense for our NATO allies and protects our interest in the Eastern Mediterranean. MARC 2-81 is the first string of the first team. I consider it to be a great privilage to have a part of that team and to have been shipmates with the sailors and marines who share these pages and the memories they will recall over the years. You are the first team. Sincerely, ffg2Z7f?Ei,v-19dL-- R. J. READER Commander U.S. Navy Commanding Officer . Q V V N v v 4 aid, , - . . 4- -ll Qs 1 :awww 1- --g 5
