Cocks Defeat Columbia to Grab Sumter Invitational Championship Height and quickness jelled in the first outing of the season as the 'Cocks defeated Lancaster 61 to 60. The follow- ing week the powerful Spring Valley Vikings handed Sumter its first defeat of the season by a narrow three point margin. The next meeting between these two clubs proved to be no dif- ferent as the Vikings again defeated the 'Cocks by a slim three points. The well- coached Spring Valley team was the only Club able to put it together and cut the unpredictable Gamecocks prior to the Sumter lnvitational Tournament. Spring Valley's jinx came to an abrupt halt in the semi-final round as they defeated the Vikings and went on to capture the Holiday title in con- vincing manner against the Columbia Capitals.
