Football FRONT ROW D Th1esfeld W Potter R Lahm J Stowe W Dewey BACK ROW SEASON RE CORD Anselmo Oconto Pleasanton Rlverdale Amhe r st Ove rton Mllle r Elmc reek Corn Bowl Huntley L Garlmck L Eloe M Scovxlle D Hough B Keyser B Re1er J McFarland D D1Ck8fS0h W McFarland V Eby K Shoemaker V Dewey FOOTBALL The Sumner Trojans had a very successful football season under the guxdance of coach Mr Dean Thxesfeld The team f1n1shed the football carnpa1gn undefeated The only black mark on the Sumner schedule was a 30 to 30 t1e w1th Overton The Trojans Whlle go1ng undefeated won the Wood Rlver Valley Conference Champ1onsh1p The Trojans scored the amazmg total of 457 pomts to thexr opponents 113 po1nts Eleven men h1t the sc Valley Conference the Trojans had the honor of play1ng m the fxrst annual Corn Bowl at Holdrege The Trojans opponents were the Huntley Bearcats who were also undefeated It was a very close game all the may but the Trojans scored two touchdowns 1n the last three rmnutes to xce the game 37 to 25 Fourteen boys reported for the opemng football pracuce and all went through the season wxthout havmg any major xnjur es The Sumner team loses only three Semors by graduatxon and they are Verlyn Eby Dale Hough and Joe McFarland There w1ll be e1ght returmng letter men next year The Sumner prospects seem pretty br1ght for two or three years yet to come The bend1ts of the hard work of thc se fourteen boys paxd off 1n the end by three beaut1ful trophxes one for the Wood Rxver Valley Conference the Corn Bowl and the travelxng K G F W trophy The Trojan team wants to thank the Sumner football fans for the1r support and backmg of the team Semor of 54 Trojans m1x lt up rn pracuce 26 0 . 0 . - . . . . 0 ' . . 8 . .
