Marguerlte was only a four year old tot when poho struck After a long and pa1nfu1 S1826 she was able to return to school but only as a helpless cr1pple Her father would brmg her to school whenever ll was possxble but because these tr1ps were so dlfflcult she was often late Thls dtstressed Marguertte greatly because she was always ambtuous loved school and wanted to be present and on txme everyday Pr1nc1pal Thompson reahzmg the SIIUKIIOD one day sent her to Cluld Welfare Agency where dns orgamzauon arranged for her transportatxon by tax1 whenever her father could not brmg her Then Marguertte s father became 111 and had to be hospuahzed so that the Agency had to assume complete responsxbxhty for her transportauon to school, One day a member of the Board of Educauon happened to remember that the commumty had purchased a chalr for another cr1pple Jeff Caldwell Cnow deceasedj who was also a Sumner student Jeff's brother Mr James Caldwell havmg been contacted by the board member agreed readlly to gxve the cha1r to Marguerite However Marguerlte s good falrxes weren t through workmg for her yet for at th1s pomt the Stevens Motor Cha1r Company appeared on the scene Th1s ftrm recond1t1oned the chaxr furmshmg the labor wnhout charge ln 1953 the Kansas Cmans a group of women from Greater Kansas C1ty gave to the Agency 350 to be used m the same worthy cause wluch sum was apphed on the cost of matenals needed for recondmonmg Marguerlte s chalr Agam tn 1954 the Kansas Cmans donated S50 for the same purpose. A.llI1Clp3IlIlg Marguerltes use of the car at mght the Stevens Motor Chatr Company has attached a umque hghung system on the fazders and also a horn so that she enjoys the same protectlon as if she were ln a regular motor car Now Marguerxte IS the happy little prtncess whose good fa1r1es have made II D0gSlb1C for her to graduate and receive her dtploma tn May wlth her other classmates.
