U J I 'fam 'van ii ?N,.:u-5, To JohnA Hodge John A Hodge brought 35 years of successful admrmstratron as Sumner I-hgh School prrncrpal to a close September 1 1951 The well known educator asked the Kansas Crty Kansas board of educauon for retxrement prrvrleges on Monday Aprrl 23 51 The body granted the request Mr Hodge a natrve ofShe1byv111e In1dana was the thrrd prrncxpal of the 46 year old school He was preceeded by two other prmcrpals J E Patterson from 1905 and 1908 and J M Marquess who served the follow mg erght years Mr Hodge taught rn Indxana for four years Both the B A and M A degrees were earned at lndrana unrversrty where durrng 1909 and 1910 he was teachrng fellow rn the physrcs department He came to Kansas Crty ln 1912 where he began teaching mathematrcs and scrence at the old Sumner Hrgh School at Nmth and Washmgton Boulevard In March 1916 he was named prrncrpal We hereby dedrcate this annual to our past leader for hrs long years of devoted service A sr v as 5'
