It was during the middle of July, 1970, that I,c Jim Hill, decided to attend a dental convention in Los Angeles. I felt that I could Nkill two birds with one stoneu by learning the latest methods in dentistry and by visiting some of my old high-school friends. Little did I realize at that time 'f' just how many classmates that I was to meet. A friend and I ' jumped into his red and white plaid helicopter and were off in' a flash for old nCalifornyn. I well remembered how everyone used to drive automobiles back in my high-school days instead of taking to the air as we modern people do today. I I It was getting-on well into the afternoon when I heard I that familiarMgr6wling'in7the pit of my stomach. Just then Ii. glanced down and saw a hot-dog stand. We landed the hunk o' ' tin and walkedrto the stand. We were greeted by Q23 Piper, my old classmate, owner of the hot dog stand. After polishing,4 off eight hot dogs and two malts, we ambled out to the helicopter I noticed a handsome Rocky Mountain forest ranger ranger admiring the helicopter. He was no other than Bill Inyart.t It was getting lateg so Bill easily persuaded us to bunk upn in thei nearest city, Denver, and go with him to the rodeo. As soon as the show was over, we walked over to have a short chat with Ed Mitchell, the famous rodeo star and horse trainer. At the crack of dawn, we were on our way to our destination. We flew over the Grand Canyon and the fabulous Painted Desert of north-central Arizona with all its beautiful-array of colors . displayed in the rocks, As we flew on, we noticed the irrigated lands with thousands of acres of orange groves. We decided to stop and buy some oranges to eat along the way, I was surprised to discover that all of those acres were owned by jim ROdgSPSff and Larry Miller, They gave me a crate of oranges, and we . continued on our way. ,A i ' ' ' We reached Los Angeles by late afternooneand took a taxi to the Blue Plazza Hotel, the largest hotel in the city, we had planned in advance to stay there because it was one of the best hotels in the nation and was owned by Ethel M21 Groves, an old high-school classmate, The bell boy, Harry Minniear,.i, took our suit cases to the desk where we were registered by ' Mary Atkins, the desk clerk. ,I must say that Ethel surely - had an efficient group of employees. - 1 1 f ,I later saw Ang Gray, thelfamous comic book author, in'the hotel lounge. After talking with Ana for several minuteqjand a telling her that I read no-other comics but hers, Ethel May A'l, ' Q invited Ana, my friendjwand me to have dinner with her.v During dinner we were entertained by an excellent commedian, the well-known Delvin Pittman, and by a melodious orchestra cone ducted by Willis Prout. I,have never in all my life eaten so,much delicious food.n It was prepared by the noted French chef, Pierre Jon Foster, f -. Q After dinner, I crawled up to my room: I was suffering from acute indigestion. ,How was I to know, that nsnaegelu was French for snails. Letha,Gudgel, the hotel nurse, had me feeling better in a few minutes, though, with the aid of a couple dozen pills. 1 gf., I Ethel May asked if we would like to visit the cityfs most promising bachelors-and owner of the local Texaco Oil Company, Keith Routien. We replied that we would like nothing better, so her hotnrod chauffeur, Lenard Hulfachor, drove A us to Keith's estate, Weghad a long talk with Keith. Later at our bedtime, Keith called a taxi to take us back to the hotel. For some reason or other, Ethel May wasn't quite ready to leave and decided to stay a while longer. 1 In the morning I went down to take a quick dip in the swimming pool inside the hotel. At the pool I noticed the hotelfs swimming instructer, gat Nestall, who recognized me when I pretended I needed some swimming instruction. Later as I was walking up the stairway, I slipped on a banana peel and tumbled down three flights of stairs. Although I wasn't hurt, I was quite irritated. And why shouldn't I be? who wouldnlt be sore to roll down all three flights of stairsfv before several laughing people. I went to complain to theis janitor, but my irritation disappeared when I met janitor ,s gig Miller and his faithful assistant, gpg Moan. I noticed that I had torn the knee out of my trousers. It must have happened when I slid into the swimming pool. As I entered the shop of the city's most skilled seamstress, I was surprised to see that she was Susan English, Susan told me that she had fallen in love with the skill when she was mending Uthe little aocidentn that occured at the senior class play. 1 U: 1 K I K ,V I , ' While I was walking up to my,room, I bumped into Qim Bonewits, a college professor at U.C.L.A. I later entered my room and was cheerfully greeted,by Ilena Martin, who was one of the hotel's cleaning women. We talked over old tunes while Ilena cleaned my room. I turned on the T.V. set to Match the afternoon football game. Qne of the cheerleaders looked familiar, and I then realized that it was none other then Donna Harbaugh4,,After the game I turned on.another channel and watchedfthe . - famous singer, Sharon Burbggg, on her weekly T.V. program.
