A silhouette is an outline ofan object or a being. lt captures size, shape, and form without the detail. An annual might be called a type of silhouette because it attempts to capture an outline of a particular school year. We hope to keep in memory the portrait of our wonderful high school years silhouetted in life form. ' r We dedicate this 1958 Spartan Annual to Mr. John Anderson and Mr. Arthur Berge, our Annual and Annual Ad Ad- visors, in gratitude for their wonderful work on the annual which has made possible these wonderful high school memories to be cherished forever and ever. SENIOR BALL - A HUGE SUCCESS The memory of our Senior Ball at Maplelawn School on December 14, will remain with us always. All the committees worked very hard and the results proved it. The Senior Council did a wonderful job on Senior announcements, Senior Ball decorations, and pep assemblies. The Class of '58 was very active in sports, winning many honors for us. To administer the last year, the Senior Class elected Victor Lindstrom, president, Bernard Chaplin, vice-president, Carmen Riehl, secretary, and Shirley Luhtala, treasurer. This past year proves that, We're Super, We're Great, We're the Class of '58. AUSTRA ABOLINS Aultru lf a good disposition is valuable as gold she could retire. But this name did not stick with them long, for not only are they the largest class to enter our school, but they have also proven themselves quite worthy to partake of the many activities. Their first job was to elect class officers. As President they elected Paul Bentong Vice President, Walter Winingerg and as Secretary-Treasurer, Uldis Abolins. There were many kids who were in and doing a good job in all the various clubs and activ- ities. The Freshman Class had a lot of pep and enthusiasm and will go far before they leave our school. 1 4,32 3 ' We ' C .A 1 ' V- V , V1,.f gf, ..., . X X X I ,.1QQ E Q P ,Q' E ? The use of more pages and more pictures is the most noticeable change. Among the more important features is the use of silhouette division pages. These along with the cover have given this year's annual a much more enchanting and desirable appearance. The 1958 Spartan was published by the American Yearbook Co. and the photography was done by Harta of Tacoma. The annual staff has been working real hard on the Spartan all year and they are sure it is one of the best annuals ever printed. Sfflfff Seated: S. Coates, M. Doucefte, C. Caviezel, L. Faunce, S. A. ANNUAL AD MAKES GREAT SALES Under the capable management of the co-business managers, Elizabeth Wenzell and Sa Yoder, the Annual Business Staff proved very successful in soliciting ads from both Sumr and Puyallup merchants. The members of the staff also tried something different in selling annuals. The annuz were bought by the students room by room. However, those who did not wish to buy them unc this system could purchase them in the bookstore before school or at noon. 45 5 Am M We N44 x if ix ,, -j.
