Perhaps But no othei expression could bet ter Cl'1313.Ct911Z6 our football team than this A glance at the won and lost record will doubtlessly show the least number of wins in Spartan history The scores tell us little more The fight and determination the indomitable spirit both on and off the field nex er shovs up in the statistics Sumner did have its wins one an upset over a top notch White Rn 91 eleven Pei haps that was their shining hour Many vull argue however the time the Spartans reached then peak the week preuously when they played the highlv favoied Renton Indians to a 6 6 t1e The only othei victory was a triumph over the Bethel Braves champions of their own league Losses? Yes the Spartans suffered more than their share of defeats Again fig uies will not tell the complete stoly Even when the losses were lopsided the Spaitans were valiant in defeat Two of the setbacks were heart breakers to lose In the first league game the Spartans led all the Way over Kent Mer1d1an only to lose in the last three seconds of the ball game 13 7 It was almost an identical defeat at the hands of the Auburn Troians In the last minutes of the game the TroJans broke a t1e to win 13 7 This season was the last for Coach McCoy who resigned to assume duties as ath let1c director and to continue as basketball coach McCoy s fine record as coach of the smallest school in the Puget Sound League an never be forgotten A McCoy coached team always has been a team of fighting spirit Under his capable direction the Spar Some members of the team won individual glory R when D n Helmold was unanimous choice for all confei N K 011 ence end and alternate on the all state team and Duane Netzer tackle Allan Loucks guard and Ed Hannus centei were given honorable mention on the all confer ence team Season s Sumnei Sumner Sumner Sumnel Sumnel Sumner Sumnei Sumnei Sumnei Thirty Scores 7 Highlands Kent Meridian Renton White Rn ei Highllne Auburn Clover Park Bethel Puyallup I C C S-Xlli fl, Xlillvr, MIK li.
