The Auburn Trojans furnished Sumner with her opposition in the next to the last game. Auburn hadn t won a game all season and were up for this game. In the annual Thanksgiving Day game against Puy allup the Spartans were defeated in a run-away game 34 to 7. Stan Smith bucked over and converted in the final minute to score Sumner s onlw touchdown. The Pup allup team looked great and looked like the league champions they were. Dale Wright was captain of the team and Bob Shoemaker was voted the Inspirational Award. Bob was also chosen on the All-Conference eleven. Doug Brown Fred Stump and Dale Wright received honorable mention. Forty-six GAA Also in the sports limelight during the 1951-52. season were the members ot' tht Girls Athletic Association. Five teams tompeted during volleyball and basketball sea- sons for championship honors. Other actixities included svsimming the banquet and tht selection of honor teams. The Spartans played many close games this year and gave a good account of themselves. The highlight of the season was an overtime game with the Highline Pirates when Highline defeated them 58-56, The Pirates forward, Don McDougal, scored 28 points in this ball game. The first game with Renton was the upset of the year when the previously undefeated Indians were de- feated by the Spartans 47-41. This loss gave Puyallup the undisputed claim to first place. Mac McAllister, Sumner guard, was a unanimous choice for all-conference. Mac was picked by his team- mates as inspirational award winner. He was also captain of the team. Howard Hanson and Dale Wright were given honor- able mention on the all-conference team. Sumner had a successful season. They won their last five games including a thriller from White River 61-57.
