SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS- FIRST SEMESTER Gordon Voiles, President: Wanda Brewer, Secretary-Treasurer: Franny Luhtala, Member-at-lzxrqe. Camera Shy: Gordon Steeltz, Vice-President. SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS - SECOND SEMESTER Arbutus LaCrosse, Secretary-Treasurer: Franny Luhtala, Presidenlp Bob Lucas, Member-at-large: Miss Poole, Advisor. Camera Shy: lean O'Kelly, Vice-President. Senior Histor ln the year One-thousand Nine Hun- dred and Forty-three a very meek little class entered S u m n e r H i g h. They weren't meek for very long and soon were going right to work on the usual activities of a Sophomore Class. They elected Iohn Sperb as their presi- dent for the first semester with Ken Courtney, vice-president: Kathy Hend- erson, secretary: Margie Barr, treasurer: and Franny Luhtala, member-at-large. Second semester officers were Iean O'Kelly, president: Ross Lunbeck, vice- presidentg Stan Barber, secretary and treasurer, and Gordon Voiles, member- at-large. Six Sophomore boys turned out for football with Iules Potter making first string. There were four Sophomore boys out for basketball, all making first string. Five Sophomore girls, Shirley Ft e m m e n, Vera Blackadder, Lorraine Moriarty, Eva A n g e lin e and lean O'Neill, earned their athletic letters. Many Sophomores were members of the band and chorus, taking part in the concerts, and the Operetta ln Old Vienna. The all school play was also composed of a number of Sophomores. the title being And Came the Spring. The Sophomore Hop was the main event of the year, held in May, and due to the cooperation of the class it was a big success. lt will be remembered by our graduating class as their first real step on the ladder to their graduating day. During this year the class sweaters were chosen. They were blue sweaters with gold and white Spartan head em- blems. The lunior year of this class brought more active boys and girls for turn-outs in all the school activities. Ken Court- ney, Bill Seeber, Carl Anderson, Iules Potter, Gordon Voiles, lohn Sperb, Keith Eggert, Franny Luhtala and Ed Wallace were out for football and Franny Luhtala, Ross Lunbeck, Carl Anderson, lules Pot- ter and Bob Garrett were out for basket- ball. The class rings and pins were chosen this year. They were very attractive with a large S supported on Mother of Pearl. On each side the date l945 and the owners jmfigls were in lqrqe block letters, Thi? CICISS OffiC91'S fOr the lL1UiO1' Year were, first Semester, President Donna Stone, Vice-President Gordon VO1l9St SSCTGTUTYTYGGSUFSF leflfl O'N9ill. Grid FICIHHY l-uhtala served as Member-at-large for both semesters. The rest of the second semester officers were Keith Eqqeyt, president, johnny Nyhuis, vice-president Gnd Mildred Cheesman, secertary-treasurer. Miss lune Schlaugli was the class advisor. The main event of the funior year was the Iunior Prom. It was presented in March and was a huge suc- cess, with a popular soldier orchestra furnishing the rnusic. A Southern theme was carried out very effec- tivfly in the decorations. At Fest this class' Senior year arrived. Many of the boys had left for the service during the summer vacrztion, and some left after the school terrn had began. The traditional Senior Ball was the main event thi. year. The theme White Christmas was chosen, and the hall was beautifully decorated, lean O'Kelly was in charge of the de:orations. The orchestra for the evening was the Chevrolets. The Senior girls entertained the Senior boys leaving for the service with an elaborate banquet on the evening of February 27, 1945. Entertainment was provided by various members of the class and faculty find the evening was concluded with Mr. Calavan leading the group in community singing.
