Gperetta IN OLD VIENNA fP1ckles1 This operetta was the dramatic as well as the musical sensation of the first semester and was presented by the music department under the d1rect1on of Mr E A Thormodsgaard lncluded ID the cast were the following Bob Badrriaker as hmmy lennison Iones an advertising expert Laurie Higgins playing the part of llona B111 Sparks as Iigo the gypsy chief losephine Edwards as Louisa a waitress Phil Zoller as Hans Maier the proprietor Virgil Collins and Avery Bioux as Bumslci and Bumski faithful sleuths of the chief of police Kinski played by Vernal Page Harvey de Carteret an American artist Gordon Voiles as Ionas Pennington the proprietor of Peter Piper Pickles Gladys Hanson as lune Penington his daughter Beatrice Maricle as an English widow Melvin Cheesman as the head Waiter Tom Gilshan non as the gypsy dancer Doris Ward and Lorna Torrey as gypsy girls Roger Frye as a gypsy There was also a dancing group Everyone cooperated in making the operetta the success it was A comical scene in the play was created by Bumski and Bumski They sang The Duty of a Cop Bob Badmaker and Laurie Higgins created a more serious effect One song which was impressively sung was l Cant Get Along Without limmy All School Play AND CAME THE SPRING The fact that the characters were cho en from all three classes made a most and Ioseph Hayes Under the direction of Miss Catherine Austin and Lester Flow ers student director the three act play was presented in penthouse style at tfvo night performances before most appreciative audience Especially fine work was done by the following seniors in the parts they acted Bill Peterson Buzz Lindsay Vera Rutledge V1rg1n1a Hartman Golden Harvey Edna and Shelley Martin Gabby Allen They were eaualed byfth brilliant acting of Wallace Staatz Mr leffrey Hartman Loyd Percy Elliott Hartman Larry Slovek Alan Fields Katherine Goodwin Christine Myers Tom Myers Clancy lim lohnson Messenger Boy 1un1ors and leanne MacKenzie Midge Hartman Ioan Storhow Mrs Louise Hartman Gloria Ellexson Carolyn Webster Boss Lunbeck Keith Nolan Evelyn Smith Mrs Fields Franny Luhtala Mr Fields and lules Potter Freddie North sophomores The production staff who d1d fine work in making the presentation a success were as follows Kathryn Henderson prompter Vivian Moriarty proper 1165 V1rg1n1a Garrett clothing Katherine Paterson tickets and Dick Bobmnson Don Beeves Fred Pyfer and Carl Anderson stage crew 27 I . .
