Vlctory Dnve Our country s on topl Our chools okayl Buy stamps and bonds And keep them that way Smce our entrance mto the war our school has trted to help our country rema n on top of the world Ltttle do we realtze how much we are domg unttl tt has been put down One ttem used tn our All Out For Vtctory drtve was the sale of stamp and bonds every Thursday The students parttcrpated very w1ll1ngly and generously From October unttl Chrtstmas our ales amounted to 55560215 Many of the rooms ln the school had lUU 1 on each ale One week we wanted to do somethtng blg so we put on a three day drrve for the sale of enough stamps to buy a Ieep Durmg that ttme we sold ftfty stx bonds On the stage rn the audttortum next to a patntlng of a leep by Elolse Downey we had a leep Thermometer w1th the mdtcatton of numbers from lU2f to lOU When we reached lUO 1 we had bought a Ieep for the Army On the followtng l:'r1day there was great excttement tn the audttorlum at noon for out tn front was cn Amph1b1an Ieep our leepll On the stde was rnscrtbed Sumner tn btg yellow letters Maybe you thtnk we werent proud' We hope we can cont1nue to serve our country tn the same sprrtt always rubber and tm All were successful and we accumulated great ptles of scrap Some of the students worked long and hard collectmg scrap To encourage the students of the school to take part tn our Vtctory Drtve members of the art club made posters whlch were placed tn and around the school Also each teacher had a slogan pertatntng to vtctory tn her room Men were needed tn the shrpyards and many of the students tn school worked and carrted on thetr sub1ects Many gtrls secured lobs for the all out for vlctorv drtve Those that werent old enough for the shtpyards worked on the farms for a great shortage of farmers had to be met The crops of beans berrtes cherrtes etc had to be harvested and of course the weeds had to be pulled Th1s was the type of work the students engaged m and they found tt very mterestmg A new course was started tn the mlddle of the year by Pop Keeney called Pre lnductlon Tramlng ln thls class the boys were taught commando tacttcs how to scale walls runntng and trammg needed tn case they must go mto the frghtmg forces Courses tn Ftrst Atd were taught tn the school and many students took part tn tlms actlvrty The course had prevtously been studted by the teachers A few students of the school were srgned up for ftre ltghttng and defense vol unteer work lust as we worked for v1ctory ln football and tn our athlettcs we worked on a larger scale for Vtctory 1n the land we love 9 s '. . . , I .
