Conflicts and Challenges for eighth graders, Genre and Composition for freshman, American Scene for sophomores, and Major Western Writers for ju- niors were required. Seniors took one elective English course per semester. Electives were available to juniors and seniors. Two additional courses were offered by the English Depart- ment this year - American Lexi- con, a course combining vocabu- lary, grammar, etymology, and semantics, and English 12 Ad- vanced Placement.
