Learn to derive satisfaction from honest work, to enjoy your family and friends, and to seek serenity throu i steadfast faith in a power greater than yourself. There are not any hard and fast rules for getting ahead--just hard ones. The best way to better your lot is to do a lot better work. Coveted goals beget happiness only when reached by conquest instead of bequest. Productive work will help keep you well mentally and physically. Too much rest may produce a corrosion like rust. Try to become as efficient in handling yourself as you are in the handling of things around you. Develop a capa- city for patience and learn to listen as well as to talk. You must learn to follow before you learn to lead. If you do not learn to either follow or lead, you will become a roadblock. The happy person not only enjoys worthwhile work but finds time to be friendly and to help those that may stumble. Achievement of life's goals may cost too much if you become too busy to enjoy your family and to be neighborly. Those that focus all their energies on monetary values at the expense of human values will spend their declining years in a vain attempt to pick up things they threw away. Learn to have faith in the Almighty that you may acquirer sense of direction and understand true values. Faith and supplication will provide a compass to guide you through confusion and conflict. Faith with work removes the uncertainty of the future so that life becomes a more fascinating challenge. You may learn to repeat the Twenty- third Psalm ever so correctly but real meaning comes from knowing the Shepherd. 6 Secne vuf Edna Hanna “Soond, Don Gossett Gene DuPouy Harold Kilgore « ELAINE ALLEN School (P tO l The Choir's first public appearance this year was at the Christmas program held in the gymnasium. This told the story of Christmas with a modern twist. Several events followed in which the Choir played an active part. A few of the events were a combined Choir and Band Concert in March, the Madison County Choral Festival in April, and the biggest splash in Summitville was ' Accent On Varieties 1958. The theme for this show was, You're Invited to a Party. A couple of kids did a good job in the solo spots this year. Both Bev Pollard and Jack Tomlinson performed in these roles. The Choir officers were: Student Director, Bev Pollard; President, Ron Welborn; Vice-President, Judy Silvey; Sec- retary; Peggy Hiatt; Treasurer; Wanda Reding, and News Reporter, Judy Bogue. Su K HituiCCe Ann Melling, senior, was chosen to represent Summitville at the Mer- maid Festival held at Lake Webster. There were 52 beauty queens and 34 bands in the gala parade. That's why Delco-Remy Division of General Motors in Anderson, Indiana, urges every high school graduate to continue his or her education. There are two ways to do it: Either earn a college degree or take some type of specialized training. To help high school graduates who sincerely want to meet the ever-growing competition for better jobs, Delco-Remy offers five avenues of approach for a brighter tomorrow: College Scholarship Program Delco-Remy through General Motors every fall helps provide scholarships, each ranging from $200 to $2,000 per school year, to young men and women high school graduates entering colleges of their choice. College Co-operative Programs Delco-Remy every fall offers a number of male high school graduates the opportunity to earn college engineering degrees from either General Motors Institute of Flint, Michigan, or Purdue University. The students alternate their time between jobs at Delco-Remy and the college classroom. Engineering Design and Apprenticeship Programs Delco-Remy regularly employs male high school graduates who are assigned to either an engineering design program or to a skilled trades apprenticeship program. Eventually they become draftsmen, toolmakers, electricians, machine repairmen, tinsmiths and patternmakers. College Graduate Training Program Delco-Remy continually hires college graduates, with a variety of different degrees, who spend six months learning various phases of the business. At the end of the program they are given an assignment which embarks them on their career in industry. Specialized Office Job Program Delco-Remy is ever alert for high school graduates who, on their own, furthered their education through business colleges or specialized troining schools that equip them for better office jobs.
