CLASS HISTORY On September 3, 1943 thirty-seven six year olds entered the doors of old S. H. S. to be greeted with a friendly smile and started on their way by Miss Dolly P. Fulton. Among those thirty-seven were: Sherman Baker, Morris Bailey, Bill Coty, Patty Denny, Joyce Gossett, Phyllis Hannon, Gilda Kilgore, Harry McCord, Jana Sue Pyle, Dick Reiley, Jack Sappenfield, Janice Tappan, Sandra Tucker, and Barbara Warren. During our second year we had three different teachers because our regular teacher, Mrs. Naomi Joyner, was unable to start because of illness. The substitute teachers were Mrs. Olive Joyner and Miss Bernice Suratt. Miss Achsah Smith guided us through the third grade teaching us the meaning of study. Jack Banther was added to our class this year. In the fourth grade Mrs. Wilma Gossett drilled us in our multiplication tables. We now advanced to the fifth grade where Miss Florence Tappan was our teacher. During this year Jo Ann Thurston joined our class. Mrs. Carmel Mann was our teacher during our sixth year of school. Janice Tappan left us this year to go to Boone Twp. school while Bill Harvey joined us. We entered Junior High and our seventh year of school with a feeling of importance because we were electing our first class officers. This was done with the help of Mr. George Johnson, our class sponsor. Our eight grade sponsor was Miss Joanne Nixon. David Gates joined us this year in graduating from Junior High. In the fall of 1951 we entered high school as Green Freshmen. This year Dewey Schwinn, Barbara Durr, Janice Tappan, and Rosalie Head joined our class from Boone Twp. This year Mr. Vincent Fitzpatrick, as our sponsor, helped us to get started making money for our senior trip. After the death of Mr. Fitzpatrick, Mr. Jack Wright took over as our sponsor. Mr. W. Joe Harvey was our sponsor during our sophomore year. In November of this year we received our class sweaters and in April we ordered our class rings both of which we are all very proud. Really big things began to happen in our junior year. We gave our first class play, Star Crazy , which was a real hit and lots of fun for us. Our second big project was selling magazines. Our senior year is here, and so many exciting and enjoyable times. First came our senior class play, Cornin' Round the Mountain, then selling Christmas cards, and selling concessions at ball games and at the noon hour. Jim Smith joined us during this year. Finally we looked forward to the many spring events, the Senior Farewell, the Junior and Senior Reception, and our senior trip with great anticipation. Mr. John Green has been our sponsor during our last two years of school and has been a great help to us. Thanks, Mr. Green. We are now at the end of our senior year and we are proud to be receiving our diplomas and yet we are a little sad to be leaving good old S. H. S. and all of the good times we have had here and the friends we have made. The Senior Class of 1955 wishes to express their gratitude and appreciation to the faculty members and the people of this community for helping us in so many ways to achieve our education.
