WILLIAM MITCHELL Union High, Huntington Physical Ed. and History 1 year at S. H. S. Sponsor of Boys Club Coach CLASS HISTORY On September 3, 1943 thirty-seven six year olds entered the doors of old S. H. S. to be greeted with a friendly smile and started on their way by Miss Dolly P. Fulton. Among those thirty-seven were: Sherman Baker, Morris Bailey, Bill Coty, Patty Denny, Joyce Gossett, Phyllis Hannon, Gilda Kilgore, Harry McCord, Jana Sue Pyle, Dick Reiley, Jack Sappenfield, Janice Tappan, Sandra Tucker, and Barbara Warren. During our second year we had three different teachers because our regular teacher, Mrs. Naomi Joyner, was unable to start because of illness. The substitute teachers were Mrs. Olive Joyner and Miss Bernice Suratt. Miss Achsah Smith guided us through the third grade teaching us the meaning of study. Jack Banther was added to our class this year. In the fourth grade Mrs. Wilma Gossett drilled us in our multiplication tables. We now advanced to the fifth grade where Miss Florence Tappan was our teacher. During this year Jo Ann Thurston joined our class. Mrs. Carmel Mann was our teacher during our sixth year of school. Janice Tappan left us this year to go to Boone Twp. school while Bill Harvey joined us. We entered Junior High and our seventh year of school with a feeling of importance because we were electing our first class officers. This was done with the help of Mr. George Johnson, our class sponsor. Our eight grade sponsor was Miss Joanne Nixon. David Gates joined us this year in graduating from Junior High. In the fall of 1951 we entered high school as Green Freshmen. This year Dewey Schwinn, Barbara Durr, Janice Tappan, and Rosalie Head joined our class from Boone Twp. This year Mr. Vincent Fitzpatrick, as our sponsor, helped us to get started making money for our senior trip. After the death of Mr. Fitzpatrick, Mr. Jack Wright took over as our sponsor. Mr. W. Joe Harvey was our sponsor during our sophomore year. In November of this year we received our class sweaters and in April we ordered our class rings both of which we are all very proud. Really big things began to happen in our junior year. We gave our first class play, Star Crazy , which was a real hit and lots of fun for us. Our second big project was selling magazines. Our senior year is here, and so many exciting and enjoyable times. First came our senior class play, Cornin' Round the Mountain, then selling Christmas cards, and selling concessions at ball games and at the noon hour. Jim Smith joined us during this year. Finally we looked forward to the many spring events, the Senior Farewell, the Junior and Senior Reception, and our senior trip with great anticipation. Mr. John Green has been our sponsor during our last two years of school and has been a great help to us. Thanks, Mr. Green. We are now at the end of our senior year and we are proud to be receiving our diplomas and yet we are a little sad to be leaving good old S. H. S. and all of the good times we have had here and the friends we have made. The Senior Class of 1955 wishes to express their gratitude and appreciation to the faculty members and the people of this community for helping us in so many ways to achieve our education. SENIOR PROPHECY We the Juniors of Summitville High School look into the future to prophesy the success of the Seniors of this year, 1955. In five years hence, we shall see the seniors in this light. Morris Bailey is head mechanic for Bailey, Bailey, and Bailey Motors. Sherman Baker is married to Mary Ethel and has three sets of twins. He drives a bus for Hines Coach Lines. Jack Banther has just graduated from Indiana University and has been elected governor of Indiana. Bill Coty is head man on the milking machine for Carnation Milk Company. Patty Denny has just been hired for the thirteenth time as secretary of Summitville High School. Barbara Durr is now married and living in Burnt Grass, Texas. David Gates has just been named the new manager of Krafts Foods Company because of his faithful cheese- making. Joyce Gossett is now teaching at the Minneapolis Institute of Mental and Technical Hyrogenics of the Spine. John Green has just been fired from the Harlem Globetrotters after taking a shower and revealing his identity. Phyllis Hannon, after four years of nurses training, has been hired as the head nurse for the President of the United States. Bill Harvey, having been connected with Seyferts Potato Chip Company during his senior year has bought the company and started making potato chip golf balls. This is handy when you are playing golf and get a little hungry. Rosalie Head made history this year as the leading poultry raiser of the country. All in all she raised thir- teen million, three hundred ninety-two thousand hens. Gilda Kilgore, as everyone knows, is an accomplished musician. This year she has made ten appearances in Carnegie Hall and fifteen in the New York • Pnilharmonic Auditorium. Her best contata is Three Blind Mice in F flat. Harry McCord just graduated from Comptometry school and is working for Marilyn Monroe as her private secretary. Jana Sue Pyle has been married and divorced six times and is collecting $120 alimony a week. Her next victim is expected to be Liberace. Dick Reiley and Jack Sappenfield are now big businessmen in the oyster business. It seems they went fishing at Vinson’s Pit and Jack fell in. He discovered that the pit was full of oysters. They bought the pit and are now making a fortune selling oysters. Dewey Schwinn has also become interested in the oyster business, but only in the eating department. He is the oyster eating champion of 1960. Jim Smith is one of Jana Sue’s ex-husbands and is now working his fingers to the bone in his logging camp in Canada scraping up enough money to pay the alimony. Janice Tappan is now married to Juluis LaRosa and is making pretty music with Juluis and their three children. Jo Ann Thurston is still going with Jim and is busy all the time trying to figure out a way to persuade him to marry her. Sandra Tucker has just completed her nurses' training and is starting to work next week for Doctor Nottingham the veterinarian. Barbara Warren was married soon after she graduated and is now working steady in her curio shop and taking care of her six children.
