'Q' Headmistress i Ethel E. Pease There is a college for each one of you! This is a statement we have heard many times in our conferences with Miss Pease. She is always ready to help us with our problems and college plans. She has been head- mistress for all of our high school years and we have really come to know her well. Without her guidance, our careers at Summit would not have been the rewarding experience they have been. Dedication Miss Lyncker, may I please be excused from . . . , I have a terrible headache, Miss Lync- ker, and . . . , Oh, I just cannot understand this gram- mar . . . , are exclamations frequently heard by persons passing Miss Lyncker's office. She is always willing to help with problems, whether they concern an individual or a group. Twice she has been our adviser, once in Eighth Grade and again in Tenth. She has also been our teacher twice, for first year algebra and sec- ond year Latin. In addition to being a teacher and adviser, she is presently Academic Sec- retary, or as she put it, Miss Pease's utility outfielder . Cum gratia et honore, classa superior elate dedicat Flammam 1963 to Miss Lyncker. Hilde Lyncker Miss Lyncker in one of her activities. M555 Lyfvcker Faculty 1 .-g......,. She is a teacher. Yes, this is very true. She teaches Latin, Spanish, and French. A. She is an adviser. This is also quite true. She is adviser to the Freshman and to the Stu- dent Council. A. Above all, she is a friend. Every student in the school knows and re t h d spec s er, an every graduate has come to appreciate all she has done for her. This is the usual opening of the Executive meetings which are held Mon- day noons in the language lab. Those who attend are the Presidents and Vice-Presidents of grades 7-12, the four Studentts Association officers, the faculty representative, Miss Walsh, and occasionally the Committee Heads. Topics of discussion cover phases of school life ranging from the traffic problem to revision of the Constitution. All that goes on during these ses- sions is reported to the classes by their officers. Any suggestions, criticisms, Br opdinions that come up in the classes are brought back to the Executive oar . While the activities of the Board are not always the center of school life, they are constantly influencing the student body, trying to improve it. In theory and in practice, then, the Executive Board is a steering committee made up of students to aid and direct students. The Policy Committee, in an effort to control the noise in the halls, make the study halls more conducive to studying, check the uniforms, and main- tain a standard of excellence in behavior in each student, struggled within itself, and passed on approximately 1,500 demerits to first-time and chro- nic offenders. Revisions were made in the uniform policy, and study halls without proctors were more frequent. The program stimulates interest, friendship, and understanding among peoples of the Wor . The Summit A.F.S. Committee is a small part of this vast program, and through it, Summit benefits greatly. This year we have tried to do two main things. One is to arouse interest in the A.F.S. program, and the other is to work for a student for next year. Under the sur- veillance of the Social Committee this year, several projects were continued, and a few new ones were initiated. The projects of the first semester in- cluded the New Girl's Tea. The Service Committee Sadie Hawkins Dance, and the Christmas Dance. The next semester was filled mostly with new projects, such as the recreation room activities and the spring field trip. There were also the usual activities of the Flame Dance, the dining room decorations and the Mother-Daughter Picnic. All the results from work on these projects would not have been made possible without the help of a good committee, and the helpful suggestions of Miss Moody, our ad- viser. So, thanks to all and happy party everyone! Ab- sent: Helen Owens, Debbie Napier, Patty Blackwell, Susan Badenhoup. Throughout this year the Service Committee has been working toward two goals, giving service to the school and giving service to the community. Many projects were taken up this year in order to reach these goals, the annual United Fund Drive was held, Red Cross gift boxes were filledg food was shared at Thanksgiving time with the Neighborhood House 5 Christ- mas carols were sung at Gillette Hospital, money was collected for Tag Day, and hospitals were visited. The Service Committee has also tried above all else this year to promote enthusiasm for and knowledge of our foster child, Chun Seh Woon. By posting 'fDo you know? signs in the study hall, by reading his letters aloud in check-in, and by encouraging members of each class to write Seh Woon, the Service Committee has tried very hard to familiarize the stu- dent parents with their son. We have also encouraged girls to participate in our money raising projects for his support. The first of these was a dance. Bake and paper sales were also held. The Service Committee has reached these goals with the help of its members and its adviser, Miss Lyncker. Thanks to all for your loyal support! Then, of course, there are assemblies - some of the memorable ones being: the Seventh Grade play the Henriots from Theater St. Paul, the science lecture, the mother and daughter from India, and Mrs. Simpson's piano recital. All-in-all, with the exception of a few dropped books and lost little kids , this year has been a good one. I would like to thank Mrs. Withy for all her help and cooperation. Much to the chagrin - because applause embarrasses us - we must admit that the Library Committee has been so successful this year that its pet project has died from a surfeit of success. Thanks to the persuasive hospitality of our charming '4Marian the Librarianv, people have been coming into the library in droves, and books have been leaving in the same manner, so, get your books and fines in be- fore June 6th, or else we Won't have any library for Mrs. Bricker to come back to next year.
