240 STUDE T BODY Already un the Foreword vue have expressed our theme for the present Top In thus years book we have sought to record by word and PlCtUr6 the functuonung of our school durung thus war year It has been a year that produced many changes changes of the method of schedulung classes change un the currueulum un the physical fitness program un the extracurrucular actuvutues These changes we have unducated In addutuon, we have trued to catch somethung of the spurut of the school as ut went about uts tasks the accelerated pace of our whole program the scene of boys leayung for camp, of their returnung for vusuts, of our partucupatuon un patruotuc druwes sponsored by the Government even some of the unavoidable day to day confusion In fact, we have sought to say, thus us Summit Hugh School as ut exusted during thus school year But, you may ask, what us the Hugh School? make up uts student body? And what of them during thus war year? What are theur study habuts what then opunuons on war ussues vutally affectung them their plans for contunued education after the war theur udeas about the peace they wull be fightung for? Have theur years un Summit Hugh School un their opunuon been of profit to them? Do our students have definute oblugatuons to the church and uts doctrines? What per cent of our student body work at paying jobs outside school? What are their feelings about compulsory mulutary traunung durung the post war peruod? The answers to all of these questions, and more, we felt were part of the record of our school durung 1944 and through the use of a questionnaire we have secured as nearly as possible reliable answers to them It goes wuthout saying that the sum total of facts collected through the survey wull not when compiled guve a pucture of our student body that us accurate to the late cletaul Yet as the answers to these questuons would provude a great deal of unformatuon about a sungle unduvudual so un the composite they yueld an unterestung and useful body of facts about a representatuve group of young people the student populatuon of Summut Hugh School For example have you ever wondered to what extent we as a unut support the church and youth organuzatuons of our cuty? The facts may surpruse you Accordung to the survey figures 6824 of us attend church or Sunday school regularly 26 urregularly whule 6' do not attend at all But un other respects we are not good youners for the survey also shows that 71 , of the students do not belong to any youth organuzatuons such as Boy or Gurl Scouts I-Iu Y and Blu Tru that 21 belong to at least one such organization and 8 ,f to more than one In servuce organuzatuons such as Cuyuluan Defense C A P etc our showing us better Twenty fuve percent belong to at least one such organuzatuon 9' 1 to more than one and 68' 1 do not belong to anv Nor does the trend change on the matter of membershup un local Y s Nune teen per cent of our enrollment are members of and use the Y regularly 20',, are members but Conlmued on Page Twenty Euqht v ' v s - ' ' ' 1 r s ' ' ' ' H R . s 4 . , rs 9 5 rw . r ' ri i A Y , I 9 ' Q I - - . 4 I 3 1 S Y x . l In the last analysis is it not the individuals who u f-Ig . u n .
