SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Venimus Vidimus Vicimus We came We saw We conquered SOPHOMORE YEAR Venimus: We came! Yes. it was back in 1937 A. D. that we arrived on the scene at Summit High School That was a long time igo way hack when the national debt was only twenty three billion dollars Remember the singular lot of teach ers with whom we came in contact' Although, of course all teachers are singular at first glance That was the beginning of the period when those people who were unfortunate enough not to look stupid silly or insane all the time, were recorded for posterity looking that way by the candid camera Sends And do you remember the sad case of the gentleman who went out for football for the first time and forgot to duck? And then there was the sophomore party where we got the names of various famous and notorious person ages pinned upon our backs and the more conscientious of us went around and inquired of people who we were It is funny how grown ups sometimes actually enioy childish games isnt it' Premier position of the sophomore class in the Summit High Whos Who went to Allan Gormley with Donald Fuchs as vice president, and Francis Gerity as secretary At the end of the term bigger and better examinations rolled by with minor civilian casualties before we went out into the summer heat to recuperate from the strain of 1 solid year of work JL XIOR X EAR Vidimus We saw' r w saw in tae posts rf othe s alan Baker president Russell lxirby yice president I tricia Sater secretiry 'lhe year started off rather inauspieiously a report was na Le into e 1 1 el Ns yx aa el s 71 were puma s We redeemee o rse xes er in the year however by earning 1 au Ilo at 1 moxie hen ht The next exent we remember was the un or Pro 1 The theme w as the World s air and those present had the rare opportunity of seeing the fair collapse, building by' building. as the murals came unstuck piece by piece. In May, we all had a chance to become jewelry' ap- praisers, when the various styles of class rings were on display' and we chose which ring to buy' in memory' of good old 40 There was a continual rebellion during that year by the boys who disliked the girls latest fashions specifi cally hoop skirts and the hair piled upon the head The girls in defense struck back with caustic remarks about the convict haircut 'and those dreadful shirts worn as if they were nightgowns SENIOR YEAR Vicimus We conquered' Now we were upper class men the cream of the crop Strangely we didnt feel any different from before but that was our secret It was imperatise that we impress the lowly sophomores and juniors with our importance As a class we started off on the right foot with capable officers james Crawford president Douglas Mattice, sice president Elaine Towne secretary and Rose Bell treasurer One never to be forgotten experience was our first con tact with Mr Downes widely known for many reasons 'among them his motto Democracy is not automatic Many individuals in the class distinguished themselves during the year proving conclusixely that our class has whit it takes Among them were Claire Williamson who won a Ixletropolitan scholarship Dorothy Linton who was selected to represent the Summit chapter of the D A R at Trenton and XVhit Moroney who became We reyoiced heartily when w learned tl at we l d benefited to a great extent by Guise and Disguases pro duction of You C1211 1 Ile I1 ll nb lun the excellence ef which is of course explained by the fact that the cast w is composed i seniors CLASS HISTOR3 COMMITTTL Margery Mcfxenney Ch Hope Horton Muriel Sampson ohn Baker Daxid Thomas 1. 1.
