Summary of the Christmas Program All students enrolled in the school music classes participated in the annual Christmas PIO- gram presented December 23, 1954. The Glee Club opened the program introducing new Christmas anthems and carols. The girls appeared in formal dresses with a color-wheel' playing rainbow hues on their skirts. The main portion of the program was a spiritual play and pageant, 'Why the Chimes Rang. Its theme was that love and self-sacrifice are the greatest gifts. The Intermediate and Junior High rooms contributed their efforts in this manner. The primary children sang traditional carols, which were illustrated by costumed per- sonifications of the songs. The program ended in a candlelight recessional with the Glee Club and the play characters singing. To add a festive note to the evening, Santa Claus appeared with a sled of treats for the youngest gue sts. The high school set held a dance in the gym afterwards. Speech and Drama Festival The Speech and Drama Festival was held in Walden on Friday, December 3. iOur play, Lord Dunsany's A Night At an Inn, received an excellent rating. The following students took part in the play: Larry Madron, Mike Madron, Charles Melvin, Bob Nelson, Martin Baker, Lois Huntington, Pat Vinson and Janet Wells. Larry Madron made a very terrifying Idol, and all members of the cast played their parts well. Pat Mumford, Ali-ce Harris, Nellie Warren and Margaret Enyeart delivered serious dra- matic selectionsg and Carole Chambers and Joan Williams delivered humorous selections. Carole received an excellent rating, and the others received good ratings. No other school averaged any higher than we in these Speech selections. Summit can well be proud of its ac- complishments in this Festival. Senior Carnival January ZZ, 1955, at 7:00 p.m. found this school all ready for the Senior Snow Carnival. There was a wide variety of booths, complete from the baseball throw to rope-the-goat. The Seniors worked very hard to make this money-making project a success. About nine o'clock we closed all the booths in the upstairs gym and went down to the lower gym to play bingo. There were many nice prizes. During an intermission, Ida Carr was crowned Queen. Everyone attending had a wonderful time. This carnival was a big success, and it is our hope that everyone will support the Seniors of '56 as well as they did us. 35
