a time for celebration our Christmas celebration, this year, was in the form of a dance, student council sponsored the func- tion which was held in the gym. young hoppla provid- ed the music while fifty couples danced in the light covered gym. previous to the dance a Christmas as- sembly was held, students found the disadvantages of penny throwing when the assembly had to be called off. we, the yearbook staff, only hope that next year's Christmas will be merrier.

a time to build up a time to build up: each class this year took chicken wire, napkins, and lots of imagination in building their floats on the theme commercials, each class tried to top the other, but the final results were what counted, the class of '71 again placed first with poor tony tiger-flakes won't even work , riding the float were the class- es three past princesses: carolyn jett, cathy rohrs, and kris berg, in second place was the freshmen class, they chose nancy malgesini to ride their float titled: bears kill 'em dead , placing third and fourth were the soph- omores and juniors respectively. 16

Ii f smarn lyadwonghad a.f.s.-thialand smam , for short, was our foreign exchange student this year. He was from thailand. he play- ed football and basketball for Summerville high and was an honorary member of block t. he was also vice president of the a. f. s. club here on campus. smam spent his year with the fred berner fam- ily in mi wuk village, his family at home has eight members and his father is a butcher. the class of '71 will make the annual trip to disneyland in june and smam will be along to see what other a. f. s.ers in the u. s. won't be able to. we hope smam enjoyed his stay at our school and that one day we will meet him again. . . perhaps in his own country. let there be and let it
