a time to be bom, a time to die, a time to plant, and a time to reap; and a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to get, and a time to lose; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace; what hath the worker from his toil? this, the 1970-71 Summerville yearbook, we, the members of the 70-71 yearbook staff, proudly present our toil of nine months to you- the people who are in it. we hope you find a few memories, a few laughs, and a lot of love in these pages, because that is what we set out to put on them. a time to pluck up that keith rodrigues mike carr which has been planted. dedication a friendly face and a ready smile are two of our dedicatee's most outstanding attributes, he is one of the greatest guys we know, and one of the very few who never seem to be angry, he's always happy and willing to help anyone in need, he not only drives the tuolumne bus, he also drives to and from games and field trips, at Christmas time he and his wife fix bags of candy to give to the kids as they get on the bus. there's never a morning, rain or shine, when he doesn't have a cneery word to say. we, the Summerville high yearbook staff, proudly dedicate the 1970-71 edi- tion to mr. al bonales, a great guy. forward times are continually changing, making last year's juniors, seniors; last year's seniors grownups. Time waits for no one, and after awhile memories fade and finally they just aren't there anymore, so we put all our mem- ories on paper before we forget and bind them together into a book, in that way although you may go ahead into the future you can always go back from time to time by just opening the cover of this book, it is time for '71 to say farewell to Summerville high and to move on to college, marriage, and just plain life, let's hope that the ideals we learned these last four years will serve as guides, leading us to the best life possible-a life where we can accept the good with the bad, remembering that to everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven. activities-11 sports-61 seniors-25 ads-111 | organizations-77 underclassmen-35 faculty adm.-99 a c t i V 1 t 1 e s a time for spirit the senior class of 1971 made spirit their business during this years spirit week, they sponsored all activities which included tug- o-war, baby bottle contest, scavenger hunt, pie eating contest, apple passing contest, color day, building decoration, talent repre- sentation, and a girls crab socker game, the highlight of the week was the crowning of jeanette woods, homecoming queen, her court included paula me adams, lorraine hodge, cathy rohrs, kris berg, carolyn jett, cindy selby, robyn smith, and nancy malgesini. rtV1 ,„0 b J 15 a time to build up a time to build up: each class this year took chicken wire, napkins, and lots of imagination in building their floats on the theme commercials, each class tried to top the other, but the final results were what counted, the class of '71 again placed first with poor tony tiger-flakes won't even work , riding the float were the class- es three past princesses: carolyn jett, cathy rohrs, and kris berg, in second place was the freshmen class, they chose nancy malgesini to ride their float titled: bears kill 'em dead , placing third and fourth were the soph- omores and juniors respectively. 16 a time for celebration our Christmas celebration, this year, was in the form of a dance, student council sponsored the func- tion which was held in the gym. young hoppla provid- ed the music while fifty couples danced in the light covered gym. previous to the dance a Christmas as- sembly was held, students found the disadvantages of penny throwing when the assembly had to be called off. we, the yearbook staff, only hope that next year's Christmas will be merrier.
