Student Body pResident’s message A brief review of the spunk and enthusiasm shown in Summerville High’s 1963 student body is just one example of our progress. Never before have students shown such an in- terest in our student government and student activities; and never before have so many taken a strong hand in taking opportunities to give the student government more responsibility. Greater spirit and support of our athletics, in- cluding a championship football team is to the credit of the entire student body. Marge Baker Student Body President Our theme Our theme for the 1962-63 Pinecrest is Plato Tuolumneius. Plato is a very practical, intelligent, learned bear. In the true Athenian style, he is a bear of science and letters. Not to be overlooked however, he is in the prime of physical condition, as are the Spartans of his time. Plato can be a good example to every student at Tuolumne, as he combines all the good traits of the early Greeks, Athenian and Spartan. V • Chris and his Car. ”1 smoke Lindy pens! Yearbook, ecch! ! We've gone to classes and had fun in much the same way as any students in any high school in the nation. But, also, it has been a different year, for each person has learned something new, made new friends, and faced some new challenge in a different way. For the class of 1963 this is only a sample of the mixture of old and new experi- ences that they will encounter in the years to come. As co-editors of the 1963 Pinecrest we honor the seniors in this yearbook and hope that this annual will do its part in bringing back fond memories of this dedication The Staff dedicates the 1963 Pinecrest to a man who has dedicated his time to the stud- ents of Summerville High. Mr. Richard Shreve has been the Ski Club advisor since he came here six years ago and this year he was the B Basketball coach. In the minds of the students, Mr. Shreve is a first rate teacher—first with the students, Citizens xxiii MU yZ' s -Z 0ix iy at'rfy ' r- jfiu'SS ' £ ysss y 1. wSjTM • - ,«AA ''a ' „„,-y t fS ” „■.■ • ■ ; M Always to excel and to Be supeciOR to otheRS. - - homeR ciXw - j V V- kA xaSJ SemoR Citizens STERLING MIRI ANDERSEN 'Sterling'' Known for: being good at everything. Although we have no picture for this highly spirited organization, we feel that it de- serves much credit for it's attempt to or- ganize school spirit. PEP CLUB OFFICERS Hoyt Elkins, president; Gary Sparks, S.C. Rep.; Sue Chapin, vice president; Pricilla Landes, secretary. Ski CIub This year Summerville High School had a very unusual Ski Club. It never went skiing. However, this was not the fault of the club. Because of the fact that there was no snow, the members didn't have a chance. Even until the closure of Dodge Ridge the mem- bers hoped for snow—in vain! 42 FOREIGN LANGUAGE CLUB—Left to right: B. Roberson, H. Rice, R. Myers. C. Robinson. Row 2: Mrs. A. Billett, S. Recek, K. As a member of the Student Body I learned not only by theory and my own thoughts like I did before my stay in America, but through life and experience that most people all over the world are the same. Soon I will leave to go to Germany, my Germany which I love. I will return much richer in knowledge than I was when I arrived. The teachers, the students, and the townpeople, and especially my American parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cromwell, and my brothers, Roger and Ronald, were every minute so friendly and helpful. Your hospitality was without equal. I will never forget you and all that you have done for me. Thank you so much! Good Bye! Auf Wiedersehen! peteR iTlossnunn niARge BakeR AFS is the beginping of world understanding through working and living together. My being an American Exchange Student to The Netherlands this past summer is and always will be a very important experience in my life. As a member of the Dirk De Vries family in Nieuwe Horne, Freisland, I became very close to my Dutch family and proud of the Dutch people by knowing them and understanding their customs and their country. This made me moie aware of the old American spirit of our forefathers who fought for the freedom of our country, AMERICA, let us always be reminded of your heritage for a stronger and better America. Through my experience I have a very definite spur of interest in understanding people and relations, not only local, but state, national and international. homecoming queen pmncesses homecoming queen Rachel hitch Seniop PRincess Leslie StoweRS jumoR pRincess ITlaRgaRet WyhliOko SophomoRe PRincess Ponna CaRR pReshman PRincess BaRBaRa king The gang at lunch in the cafeteria.
