is spent in the classroom The challenging problems of the pre- sent and of the future have made us increasingly conscious of our American past and of our democratic heritage. Our social studies Curriculum is designed to give students a deep under- standing of our country and of other countries, to help us to comprehend the significance of historical experi- ences. and to make history a live force in our everyday lives. atm The foreign language department at Sulphur High School is very complete. Two year courses of Latin, Spanish and French are taught. These courses were selected for their educational and voca- tional values, the extent of their use, and cultural values to he gained by their study.

However. it is found to be more complex beneath the surface. The Sulphur High department also offers courses in speech. debate, dramatics, and journalism. The students are encouraged by the English Depart- ment to participate in state and national competition in speaking and composition. 5 4 28

Here we study fundamental and advance 1 1 Because of our industrial environment and our ever increasing need for scientists, Sulphur High encourages study in the fields of science and mathematics. Science courses offered include General Science, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
