CLASS PROPI-IECY The Senior Class of '54 known as The Gangf' couldnt stand to be parted. So they all boarded a ship ---'-A-- destination was Shangri-La, the island where people never grow old. Wfhen they arrived everyone began to donate his unusual talents to make a perfect island. The first project was the All Weather Gangway Turnpike, from the north end to the south end of Shangri-La. It was completed in two days. The toll for the entire trip is only 555 per car and 5510 per passenger. The engineering feat is a personal triumph for Allen Boyd, who did the planning, the surveying, and all the work. The collector at the north gate is' Wayne Brady who is trying to support his family of 12. The collector at the south gate is LaDonna Maas. She is saving money to invest in a 5 and 10c store. Exclusive concession rights for motels and restaurants along the turnpike have been awarded to Nancy Billings and Ann Davis. One of the chief interests of the islanders is centered around a little gadget patented by Mike Stephens to be known as the Control Your Own Weather. It consists of a dial with the words, Rain, Snow, Hail, Warm, Fair, Cloudy, Cooler, and Frost. When the device is purchased it is set for the area which it is to control. Our business part of Shangri-La was soon completed under the supervision of Tommy Keller, mayor of the island. Since food is essential to the daily lives of the islanders, Sam West built his famous Super-market, known as 'What Have You Got In Your Sack ? The Shangri-La Hotel built by Don Braden was the center of attraction. The hotel has its own smoking room, swimming pool, and golf course. After a weeks' search for a desk clerk, Don finally decided upon a very reliable girl, Mary Watson. ' Mary Carol Leonard, a very talented music student in high school, has finally reached her goal in life, The island's best and only piano tuner. If at any time through the day or night you need a taxi, you will find james Williams standing on the corner calling Taxi, Taxi, 5955 Everyone on the island is always well-dressed from Nakita Hill's dress shop, now world known for it's gownless evening straps, Nellie Gregory has a very cute Tiny Tot Shop for the kiddies. john Walker, principal of Shangrila High School, is very lenient with the students, You just punch the time clock as you come in the door and go to school six days a week for ten hours each day. The instructors are required to have at least six years of college and are paid 3550 a day. With these requirements it wasn't hard for us get instructors. We were fortunate to have Emanuel Gris- som, voice teacher, johnnie Pennington, history teacher, Dick Burdett, speech teacher, Eva Suther, librarian, and Bobbie Taylor, nurse and truant officer. It doesn't make much difference to Max Riffe whether he works all the time or not. just so he has enough money to buy candy and flowers for his many girl friends. The people of Shangri-La are very proud of their residential section, Two of the most beautiful homes are owned by Gwen Cowan and Lola Reece. The church is located in the center of this area so it will be handy for everyone. The pastor of the church is Dennis Hill. - Elizabeth Howe, who has followed in her parents' footsteps in the 'business world, is now sole owner of the Salvage Yard. She goes around each morning dusting the hub-caps. Marilyn I-lodge, champion typist in high school has been appointed sec- retary to the mayor of Shangri-La. ' ' Jim Hickman, is the proud owner of Hick'man's' Funeral Home. It is furnished with the newest and most modern embalming equipment.
