Sullivan High School was admitted to the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools in 1955. The school was evaluated by the association in 1958. ln connection with this, a visiting committee of outstanding educators reviewed and appraised a self study of the school's total program made by the local school staff. The evaluation began with a banquet on Monday evening, March 24. For the next four days conferences were held with staff members and students, and the over-all program was observed. The successful co-operation of the student body, faculty, administrators, and service staff, aided by a fine school plant resulted in Sullivan's being classified as one of the outstanding schools in the state. At approximately the same time, the State committee evaluated Sullivan High School and found it deserving of an A-l rating. The evaluation committee talking to students to get an over-all picture Conferring with staff members to learn .more about the school's of the school. program. About seventy five per cent of the Senior Class customarily makes a trip to the nation's capital in the early spring. Above left T958 Seniors pre sent tokens of appreciation to their bus drivers, Right, the Seniors stopped at Natural Bridge to eat lunch. Foreward, The Class of '59 More than a hundred young men and women are nearing the end of a great adventure. They are the remainder of more than two hundred students who en- rolled at Sullivan High in September, 1955. Today, tomorrow, or the next day they will move out into the world seeking a full and happy lite. Their four years' training at Sullivan has well prepared them to meet the challenges which modern lite surely holds. These young people have something to give to the world. They bring hope and courage and keen bright minds. They are full of enthusiasm and vigor, they are determined the world shall long remember them, they want to make this planet iust a little better for their having been here. These young men and women have not set easy goals. To accomplish them will mean hard work and grim determination-Sullivan has taught them that. As graduates of Sullivan High School, they have experienced a period of association with the great of the past and the realities of the present, with ideals and men that guide and inspire. The class of T959 looks forward with the confidence that they will succeed. They are not at an end, but they are approaching a beginning. A beginning to a world that will surely experience revolutionary changes. What these changes will mean is a great mystery, but these young men and women are determined that this revolution will be used to build a better lite for all mankind. Below left Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson, is one of the regular stops on the Senior trip. Right, the Seniors climb the steps to the nations Capitol Building home of Congress. Our school provides opportunities in these fields through courses such as civics, American and World History, economics, and sociology. The school also helps in sending delegates to Volunteer Boys' State and Volunteer Girls' State. The teachers select from the iunior class at least five boys and girls for candidates. The class then votes on them, and the two top girls and the two top boys are the delegates. They are sponsored by different organizations through the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary. From Sullivan, Brenda Graves was elected sheriff of her county, and Wendell Clark was appointed State Commissioner of Finance and Taxation by the Governor Crocker of Boys' State. It is quite an honor to be a delegate to either Girls' or Boys' State. It is an experience you would never forget. 93 4' ff ,f ,ty in H mg. v 'Q 5 g gw. , , W 0. .,, ,., . . Oneida was tracked ott by Sullivan after a thirty-six game winning streak, and Church Hill's domination ot the Rotherwood Conference was terminated.
