Lively cheers, contagious enthusiasm, and out- standing qualities of sportsmanship highlighted this year's athletic events. A pep club was organized to create some new interest in the pep sessions. This plan worked very well, it weeded out the persons who were interested in them only to get out of a class a few minutes earlier. After this plan was put into effect, all the students really got behind the coach and team, a good cheering section resulted. LIFE Homecoming was Student Council-sponsored this year. For the first time in Student Council history, members assumed responsibility for planning the parade and dance. Later in the year, the group composed and passed a new set of rules for Homecoming activities in the future. Officers who led the group for the year were Joe Schrodt, Presidentg Eddie LeCrone, Senior Vice-President, Keith Schrodt, Jtmior Vice-Presidentg Dick Kite, Sec- retary, and Miss Boon, Sponsor. New projects achieved by the council were making a scrapbook of the year's activities and preparing a pam- phlet for future freshmen. The information in the pam- phlet was planned from suggestions of students now in Keith and Tom beg for a worthy cause. high School. Special services undertaken were sponsoring assem- bly programs and the annual Stunt Show, Christmas activ- ities, and selling pennants, pencils, and decals. Keith and Tom beg for a worthy cause appeared in the Student Council state newspaper. Several representatives were sent to the district convention at Robinson and to the state convention at Chicago. The Student Council is a member of the Illinois and National Associations of Student Councils. Hard at work on Homecoming are Councilors Joe, Martha, Sona, and Janet. f , c A I 5412: at L .1 . Four of the five past agriculture instructors, Mr. H. P. Erwin, Mr. George Iftner, Mr. Maurice Watkins, and Mr. Ed Dunphy, were present at the banquet. Mr. Harry Neville, the fifth instructor, was killed in an automobile accident a few years ago. Also honored at the banquet was Su1livan's only American Farmer, Mr. Bill Baumgartner. The FFA organization was founded in Virginia in 1928. One year later 29 agriculture students formed the Sullivan chapter of the FFA. Its purpose was to stimulate inter- est in agriculture among students enrolled in agriculture. During the years the FFA has grown until there are now usually 60 to 65 members in the Sullivan chapter. The club elected a full set of officers, sent them to a training school, supplied leaders for other clubs, helped members obtain degrees, followed regular parliamentary procedure at meetings, and had judging teams under the direction of the leadership committee. The year's school and community service committee was active, having charge of raising and lowering the flag every day, conducting a pest contest, sponsoring a local grain show, and building a float for Homecoming. The social activities, sponsored by the recreation committee, were a skating party and a wiener roast. The earnings and savings committee ran the hat check during the Okaw Tourney, sponsored a donkey basketball game, and held their annual school auction. Our congratulations go to the FF A on twenty-five years of successful service to their school and community. TWENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY FIRST ROW: Larry LeCrone,KennethNeal,RonnieWood. FATHER KNOWS BEST SYNOPSIS When Father Anderson laid down the law con- cerning nights out for his family, he only started trouble. To compensate for lost events, he suggested that the family members invite their friends to meet at the Anderson home. Taking him at his word, Betty and the young man in her life stay at home: Bud invites members ofhis basketball team to practice in the basement: Kathy asks her best friend, Patty, who is a great admirer of Bud, to spend the night, and Mother Anderson, staying home at Father's edict, has the Garden Club committee meet- ing come to her. But Betty rebels, and she and Ralph take the family car to attend a dance. This leads to complications all around, for Ra1ph's father is one of Mr, Anderson's important insurance prospects, and when Brinkworth comes to the Anderson home to finish the contracts, Father tells him, not knowing Ralph is his son, his forthright opinion of such a boy. But, eventually, things work out, and Fatherg if he has not known best, at least has learned a lesson. AW, GO BOTHER SOMEBODY ELSEI CAST Jim Anderson, father ..... . . . They won the annual Moultrie County Track and Field Meet, with J oe Whitaker setting a new County mark in the shotput of 46'5 . The rnile-relay team copped their event in the annual Okaw Valley Meet.
