SEATED: Miss Colford, Mrs. Kustner, Mr. Engstrom, Mrs. Schabes, Miss Herman. .f4c!mini5 frafion As in all business, we are dependent on the administration department for the efficient running of our school. Mrs. Kustner, in addition to her classes, keeps track of every penny received and spent. Largely responsible for the fine showing we have made in the purchase of bonds and stamps is Mrs. Schabes and her staff of student helpers. Miss Colford guides us in registering for our next semes- ter's classes while we see Miss Powers when we want a change of program. Where do YOU intend to go after you graduate from Sullivan? Whether you would like to try for a scholarship to Harvard or look for a job as a street cleaner, Mr. Engstrom will help you reach your goal. He will offer to give you psychologi- cal tests to determine your abilities, and interview you per- sonally to determine you inclinations. Can you read? Well, if you can't see Miss Stanton and she will see to it that you learn the remendial reading program at once. All in all, you can see that without these wonderful people we might graduate and become first class plumbers instead of the upstanding citizens we someday hope to be. Page 9

We remember the times we have stood outside ot a com- mercial room door listening in ecstasy to the click-clack ot the typewriters, and astonishingly witnessing the rapidity with which the business world's future secretaries take dictation. So it was with great expectancy and jest that we equipped ourselves with a shorthand notebook, sharpened pencil, clipped nails and signed up for stenography. Then things began to happen! We were shown that we were not all thumbs and we soon had the touch system mastered. We were taught a new system ot hieroglypics invented by a man called Pitman. Then we combined our shorthand and typing in a course of tran- scription. Besides all these things, we learned on the side that the first ones in the room acquired the precious new Royals and Underwoods. Then with what we thought was a knowledge ot math- ematics, we undertook bookkeeping. Here we not only learned the technique ot keeping books but had a review of addition and subtraction as well. ln the meantime we were also getting a general outlook on the business world in elementary business training. ln case we ever have the chance ot becoming a big business executive, we were able to prepare ourselves with commercial geography and commercal law.
