PROMENADE On a cold, sTormy nighT in Jan- uary, many boys and girls lucky enough To Travel in cars, suddenly Tound Their TorTune Turned upside down, as a resulT OT a snowdriTT. OUT They Tumbled, laughing and chaTTering To make a gay Time oT pushing a car. The big-shouldered he-men clad in Tuxedoes, Tound 'ldouble Toil and Trouble To keep clean yeT exTricaTe The car Trom iTs precarious posiTion in The driTT. Once in The gay aTmosphere oT The Lake Shore Club, all TorgoT pasT diTTiculTies and soon, amid exciTed whispers and quieT laugh- Ter, The January Prom held sway. Blue, whiTe and gold bids dangled Trom bare wrisTs and iumped as The dancers Took swiTT Turns abouT The Tloor. -T -5 CTU 'W x, Y , -.1 Nc! is 'MidsT soTT lighTs and music The Grand March, which signifies The real beginning oT a prom, conTinued unTil There were sixTeen abreasT marching Toward The band sTand. ATTer ThaT, TrivoliTy and dancing and reTreshmenTs were The main TeaTures oT The evening, and Tlushed and happy Taces greeTed one everywhere. This prom on The TiTTeenTh oT January was a liTTle diTTerenT Trom preceding proms in ThaT iT was a ioinT aTTair, given Tor boTh June and January classes. The prom commiTTee under The leadership OT Miss Mabel BuTler made iT a very successTul aTTair. Mr. and Mrs. George E. Anspaugh, Miss Helen Powers, and mem- bers oT The TaculTy were guesTs oT honor. In The picTures below, Sheldon Newberger and AI Rubens have sTopped Tor a momenTary chaT. NoT only was The January prom enjoyed by The January and June graduaTes, buT by The many service men-soldiers, sailors, and ma- rines-who aTTended and agreed ThaT This prom was mosT ouTsTanding. As The wior class was seaTed in an inTormal manner abouT The Tables aT The iss day luncheon and as The class parTicipaTed in communiTy singing, Les, and lighT Table conversaTion, one suddenly became aware oT The :T ThaT our Tour years oT close companionship were over. These kids Th whom we had Traveled Tor The pasT Tew years had all come To The he crossroad and each would sTarT in his own parTicular direcTion. And so The January class luncheon, Tlavored wiTh a Tender, senTi- anTal Touch, was held on January 27Th aT The EclgewaTer Beach l-loTel. hen The meal was over, The nineTy-eighT prospecTive graduaTes med back and lisTened To some very encouraging and congenial irds Trom Their new principal, Mr. Anspaugh, Tor whom The class had eady developed a sound aTTachmenT. Miss BuTler was Tlashing beam- 3 smiles aT her worldly seniors. Mrs. Lane and Mr. Parley were guesT speakers aT The luncheon. Mrs. ne, represenTing The DaughTers oT The American RevoluTion arded MargareT Mickey McWhirTer, valedicTorian oT The class, 2 honorable D.A.R. medal. ge Twe nTy-Two K TW li LU NCHEGN Mr. Paaley, represenTing The American Legion, presenTed Doug- las Harrison and Nancy LevinThal wiTh awards Tor ouTsTanding ciTizen- ship. CulminaTing The aTTair were The class prophesies ToreTelling The mysTerious TuTure, The communiTy singing, and The display oT individ- ual TalenT. The class day luncheon remains one oT The highlighTs oT graduaTion, Tor long aTTer, many oT These boys and girls will Think back To Their senior class aTTairs, as They serve Their counTry wherever needed. Then wiTh hushed voices, inTerrupTed by giggles and sounds OT Shhh, They sTood in The rear oT The assembly hall, waiTing Tor Their Turn To come To Take Their places in The processional. The exercises began and in spiTe oT all Tears, Things wenT on wiThouT a hiTch. AT lasT The climax was reached and as Mr. Anspaugh placed diplomas in The exTended Trem- bling Tingers, The Tension oT The hour seemed To Tade inTo noThingness.
