PROFS CDN PARADE The days of the lrttle red school house are gone No longer does owe teacher have to rnstruct all the grades rn every subrect Today hrghly organrzed facultxes such as the one here at Sulllvan arry on work rn a wlde range of sublects deal1ng not only wrth a student s educat1on but wrth hrs adJustment to socrety For thrs preparatron great credrt IS due to Mr Herbert C Hansen whose educatronal vrsron has helped to aclrreve much of Sullrvans progress M Hansen has sensed that educatton fosters the abrlrty to lrxe a rrch lrfe He has encouraged mrtratrve rn the classroom and rn actrvrtres Mr lohn B Erzrnger assrstant prrncrpal has been qurck to realrze the value of new trends IH ad mrnrstratron The srxty erght teachers of Sullrvan are grouped rnto varrous departments and therr work rs carrred on under the gurdance of competent charrmen The most outstandrng work undertaken thrs year was by the mathematrcs department under the drrectron of Mrs Marguente Freser the charrman A assembly was presented rn whrch students frorn the varrous classes demon strated the tr1pod and the slrde rule as well as presentrng the hrstory of the number system and the uses of algebra rn everyday l1f Character educatron was also rntroduced rn th1s branch of the school By thrs new phase of teach 1ng trarts of characte are 1mplanted rn the student through the course rn algebra Promptness accuracy perserverance farthfulness and honesty are among these The socral srde of hrstory has been emphasrzed rather than mere facts and dates rn order that a colorful and v1v1d prcture may be left rn the student s mrnd MISS Mabel Butler rs the head of thrs department In the freld of musrc an operetta An Old Kentucky Garden was pre sented rn Aprrl Mrss Nrnrfred Sheel charrman of the rrusrc faculty Jorned wrth Mrss Helen Ford and Mrss Teresa Sloan rn drrectrng 'he productron wh1ch was harled as a great success and set a new standard for mus1cal and dra matrc productrons The Englrsh department sponsored a Shakespearlan reader at Sullrvan rn Aprrl an entrrely unrque feature rn the school He gave selectrons from several cf the rnore famous plays Mrss Margaret Maher IS charrman of thrs de partment A very frne contrrbutxon was made by the art department under Mrs Coral Kube The project consrsted of a frerze whrch was hung rn the personnel room Mr Alan Rogers shop work head added rndustrral art and metal work whrch rmproved the department consrderably Blology a new course at Sullr van has been handled successfully under the capable supervlsron of Mrs Esther Dorman The commercral department led by Mrss Helen Powers has adrmrably supplred courses for the students who enter busrness rrnmedlately upon graduatron To these as well as to Mrss Theresa Carpenter household arts depart ment Mr Carl Sundstrom language and Mr Ralph Margolrs physrcral educa tron Sullrvan owes many of her excellent educatronal strrdes dur1ng the past year Clubs sponsored by many of the faculty members have added unusual rnterest to the course Mr Abram Pannrtch rs the faculty advlsor of the student newspaper the SENTINEL and Mrs Dons Schabes dlrects the publrcatlon of the NAVILLUS . . t I I I K' 1 , .
