NA NCY MERDER Semor PATTI LAMBETH KATHY SMITH Jumor il, Sophomore JUDY STEWA RT Freshman Under the superb direction of Harry C. Jarrett the 1959 chorus has developed into one of the finest in this part of Indiana, During the past twelve years the membership has expanded from twelve to nearly two hundred students. Besides being ready to sing for any organization, the chorus par- ticipated in the County Festival, District Festival, Spring Concert, Indiana State Concert, Minstrel, Cantata, Commencement, and Baccalaureate. In addition to the former activities, the chorus also sends representatives in the form of soloists and ensembles to District and State Contest. Each day after school Mr. Jarrett could usually be found working with one of the eight ensembles which he formed. The excellence with which the chorus performs makes the school and community very proud of its music department. Very closely related to.the Senior Choir is the Cadet Chorus. Its functions included a Cantata and a special number in the Spring Concert. This plus participating in other choral activities prepares them for the coming years with the Senior Choir. Throughout the year the band participates in numerous activities and presents its own musical programs. The Sullivan High School Marching Band entertains with delightful shows at football and basketball games, Majorettes Marilyn Smith and Sue Poole spending much time and effort on these half-time capers, adding to the enjoyment of spectators. New drum equipment, pom-pom girls, and flag bearers added splendor and color to the marching group. Other activities included parades, concerts, and music festivals. All band members are indebted to the Band Parents Club, which worked very hard presenting plays, baking pancakes, and selling Christmas trees in order to buy new uniforms. President Phil Eskew takes a turn directing the band during its fifth period session.
