BASKETBALL Students and townspeople seldom glimpse the tiresome hours of prac- tice behind the smooth plays which they applaud with so great enthusi- asm, Coach Spike Kelly and Assistant Coach Wey could tell you that it is during these hours, rather than the actual playing time, that games are won or lost. Only by looking in on a daily practice session can the fans appreciate the effort and time spent by the coaches and boys to build a team that can put through a play with clock-like precision. And here the candid camera catches the spirit and concentration that have boosted Sullivan to a S. l. A, C. championship and added a gold basketball to the now bulging trophy case. BAND A clash of cymbals, a roar of drums, a toot on the tooters, and they're off! A merry march or a symphonic melody is the result. During the fourth period, the band melodies drift upstairs and all around. There is usually a crackle of static as the music of the drum corps, glee club, and wood shop blends with that of the band, but not for long. Next year the sound-proof walls of the new field house will keep the renditions a more profound secret than heretofore. Three bell-lyres and a set of tympani have been added to the band this year, A school without a band is like a body without a lung-there can't be LIFE.
