Hard on the heels of the play came serious work on the yearbook. Various com- mittees had been selected, and each performed in the time-honored method of com- mittees, doing as little as possible. That is, until the week before the first deadline when Miss Laverty, the yearbook advisor, touched each person's nose to the grindstone. As each deadline approached, we were prodded to keep grinding. We kept meeting deadlines until Class Day. This needed a lot of work. After spending many worried hours, the committee finally presented the class with an accept- able script. On May 21 ninety-two seniors and the Professor's Vonderful Machine pre- sented Senior Class Day, 1965. The program was a great success, and the awards re- ceived by the members of the class were many and varied, Finally the eagerly awaited event, second annual commencement of Sullivan Coun- ty High School, arrived. Lycoming College President Dr. Wertz, in his address on The Contagion of Intimacy , advised us to be careful in choosing what or whom we love, as we grow to be like that which we love, Ninety-two graduates received diplomas from Mr. Harold Robbins, president of the Board of School Directors, on May 29, 1965, Thus officially ends an important, discouraging, enjoyable, informative, and ex- tremely formative part of our life, our high school career. Now, as this history is writ- ten, we begin the next phase of our existence, stepping with trepidation and eager a.r1- ticipation over the threshold of life. Truly, the end of this history is a commencement! 'fly JNL

731 ' On a cool September morning in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred sixty-three, the class of 1965 met for the first time in the Sullivan County High School. This meet- ing signified that for the first time in history all the students in Sullivan County could attend the same high school. It also marked the beginning of the end for the differ- ences and rivalries which had grown up between the separate schools through the years, At that first meeting we were introduced to the rules and regulations under which the school would function, Our immediate reaction was rebellion against what we con- sidered silly rules , but we soon realized that these rules set our school apart from others: We found ourselves bragging to students from other schools that WE had to walk single file between classes and that WE had to have a pass to breathe. As our junior class officers we elected Duane Perozzi president, Richard Kahler vice-president, Gail Driscoll secretary, and Linda Arey treasurer, Duane- soon organ- ized a record hop, held in the cafeteria. We felt complacent about our activities un- til we began to realize that as juniors we had important things to plan, such as the Jun- ior Prom, We learned that to have a prom a class must have in its possession a considerable sum of money, which this particular class did not have. We wanted to make some money, but the printing press broke down. The class then decided to earn money by a bake sale. This bake sale was a great success, putting the class into the black. The black, however, acquired a red tinge when the Lee Vincent Orchestra was engaged for the dance. After a successful prom we found that we had just about broken even. The class, barely solvent, had enough courage for foolhardinessy to tackle the problem of obtain- ing the fabulous sum of S1800 for our yearbook. The last few days of our junior year were spent in preparation for Junior Class Day. In one short week we not only wrote an original script, but we also produced. a show that was a success. When we next entered Sullivan County High School, we came as exalted seniors. We were informed that as seniors we had certain duties and responsibilities to assume. To lead us in the discharge of these duties we elected Richard Kahler as president, Bruce Orlowski as vice-president, Jean Bohensky as secretary, and Suzanne Worthington as treasurer. Dick soon became adept at his job, presiding over the meetings, appoint- ing committees, and being everywhere at once to do all the other mysterious jobs that presidents do, As a means of paying for our Senior Ball, we presented a class play. Mrs. Shoe- maker, the dramatics coach, spent many harried hours directing, and we spent many blissful hours learning lines, This play, Stars in Their Eyes, was the best three- act play ever produced on the stage of Sullivan County High School. We might admit that it is the only three act play yet given there, but we are positive it will remain the best, 50
