Kramer Head Coach The Lady Lobos 1976-77 season was one of rebuilding. The team was composed of one returning letterman, two returning squad members and five freshmen. Due to the circumstances we had a very limited number of matches. Therefore we didn ' t develop enough playing experience which hurt us in the latter part of competition. Overall this has been a year of rebuilding and experimentation. We are looking forward to next year with the addition of new recruits and the experience of our returning players. Coach Kramer Margie Ephraim Senior Pecos, Texas Eleanor Hill Senior Fabens, Texas Glenda Green Sophomore Alpine Willie Lane Soph All Conference Midland Mary Marquez Freshman El Paso, Texas Celia Martinez Freshman El Paso, Texas Debra Barrier Soph. Manager Pecos Coach Pierce: Since beginning my coaching career in 1936, I have had many fine teams and many wonderful experiences. I have coached several undefeated football teams. One of my teams won the National Championship, but the 1976 football team of Sul Ross State University had as much character and pride as any team that I have ever coached. I looked forward to every workout and every game because it was genuine joy to work with such a wonderful group of dedicated young men. Coach Fewell: To be successful a school, a business, a person, or a team must set goals. The ' 76 Lobo football team ' s goal was to prove that football is still alive and well at SRSU. I am very thankful that I had a small part in helping a few young men attain a measure of success. Coach Micheli: This was the first year of the non-scholarship program. It was a surprise for the Lobos. Sul Ross was now a member of the Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association. All the coaches were new, in fact, they did not meet as a staff until mid-July and did not meet the players until the first practice. In 1 976 the Lobo ' s record was 7-2 with the team winning the last seven games in a row. The success was due to a group of dedicated athletes who did everything the coaches asked of them. The 1977 Sul Ross team has the potential to be as good and the coaches have worked hard in finding replacements. The 1 977 schedule is a competitive one and will be a true test of the Lobos football ability. WWW Sul Ross 1976 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE RESULTS 7 WINS AND 2 LOSSES! There were no recruits only dedicated women who gave their time and effort to this new team. In appearance the overall record may look poor, but due to the fact that this was the first year of basketball for women at Sul Ross, the first year of full court basketball for all the team members, and the first year ever to play basketball for five of the members two of which were starters it is understandable. The team showed steady improvement from the beginning of the season to the end. We look forward to next year as less time will be spent on learning basic skills and more on plays and play making. However, I do feel that progress was made. We had an inexperienced team that returned only three lettermen from the year before. In basketball, new faces mean that it will take time to begin to play well as a unit and we did play some good basketball at the end of the year. I feel that the ' 77- ' 78 Lobos and Dr. Sample will do very well. I have enjoyed my three years at Sully and will never forget the experiences that both myself and my family have had. 82 93 Angelo State University 71 81 McMurray College 71 83 McMurray College 71 75 Lubbock Christian College 69 97 Howard Payne 74 76 Eastern New Mexico State 74 84 Angelo State University 52 92 West Texas State University 46 89 Howard Payrle 68 70 Eastern New Mexico State 86 81 Trinity 61 85 Texas A 1 87 76 Trinity 74 76 Austin College 75 89 Panhandle State 92 73 Panhandle State 74 95 Cameron State 82 83 Panhandle State 110 89 Panhandle State 64 74 Tarleton John Curry Junior Seminole David Duvall Senior Hereford George Crawford Sophomore San Antonio Leo Gomez Sophomore Valentine John Henry Hernandez Sophomore El Paso, Texas Kim Hughes Jr. Honorable Mention Seminole lOBOs 23 Russell Kozusko Sophomore Copperas Cove Dusty Loewe Junior Mexia Terry Proffer Sophomore Ridgecrest, Ca. For this reason, everything was new. We had a young team with only one senior in the top eight golfers. The golf team has a tremendous amount of potential and are capable of winning any tournament they participate in. Having to compete against athletes from schools which award athletic scholarships, the Lobos fared very well with the limited number of men and women participants. It was a pleasure coaching athletes who were participating, not because they were receiving a scholarship, but because they enjoyed the sport. mmmrnfaw GIRL ' S TRACK Glenda Speer Junior Alpine All Conference INTRAMURALS SOME AUTHORIZED SOME UNAUTHORIZED i Itri 111 mm BASKETBALL QUEEN Patty Sparks Medley Storaska Hudson Kruger New President C.
