Text from Pages 1 - 240 of the 1976 volume:

f The threshold looks familiar. Have I been here before? If I don’t open that door, it would be like playing roulette and never finding out the score. My mind secretly builded with frag¬ ments and pieces of my learning and now presented to me the completed structure—mine for the earning. I musingly wonder, will my torn life be mended with a secure steady seam? I open the door, and realize the ques¬ tion can be answered by fulfilling this dream. The cover is a photograph of an original oil painting by Joe G. Russell of Kerrville, Texas. THE DREAM by GRAHAM EDGE (c) Copyright 1 969 by Threshold Music Ltd., London, England. Organizations 109 Student Individuality ReacNon People cannot be stereotyped. Each displays a unique personality of wants and desires, and each finds unique ways to express his individuality. 112 Student Individuality Expression Student Individuality 113 Competition Sul Ross Stale Sul Ross State University has many opportunities to offer. For the sports-minded person, there are such things as football, basketball, rodeo, baseball, track, tennis, vol¬ leyball, and swimming. There is also an Intramural league featuring football, softball, volleyball, bas¬ ketball and many individual sports. For musicians there are several dif¬ ferent bands to join and many chances to learn or to enlarge musi¬ cal knowledge. Aspiring writers can work on the Brand, Sage, or Sky¬ line staffs. Actors can participate in various plays or musicals through¬ out the year. These are just a few of a wide variety of activities, and there are more than enough to please anyone. In order to get the most out of Sul Ross, involvement is the key. 114 Student Individuality Exhilaration Lobo Mascot for the 75-76 year was James McCaughan, Senior. The Cheerleaders were Senior Kathy Bradford, Sophomores Caro¬ lyn Calomeni, Caryn Burnside, Car¬ ole Morgan, Cheryl Freeman, and Cheryl Donaldson. 116 Student Individuality Student Individuality 117 Contemplation To many people, college is a new experience. It may be the first time a person has really been away from home. He must learn how to handle responsibility, and also to discipline himself. His parents aren’t here to remind him of the things he has to do. He soon finds out that if he doesn’t look after himself, no one else will. He also learns that it’s up to him to get wherever he needs to go. There may be frequent bouts of loneliness and the feeling that no one cares. This usually occurs during the first few weeks, but when he gets to know people, the feeling changes. He then realizes that he is not the only one who feels this way and that college is what he dreamed it to be and much more. 118 Student Individuality Opposite page: Lopsy, Mountainside mas¬ cot, fearlessly guards the dorm residents from danger. The students are probably the same, having common goals. They want to have as much fun as possible, but when it gets down to serious business, the work usually gets done. Most students want to get as much out of Sul Ross as they can. 1 24 Student Individuality Socialization Although a lot of time is spent in classes, more is spent out. Between and after classes, many people go to the SUB to drink cokes or just to sit around and socialize. A lot of people go to the Pizza Parlor or the Dairy Queen. Almost every week¬ end there is a dance and large crowds show up. Many people go home on week¬ ends but usually quite a few remain on campus. Some stay just to party.
