Text from Pages 1 - 200 of the 1954 volume:

I It is the peculiarity of knowledge that those who thirst for it always get it. —Jeffries the 1954 brand volume 11 published annually by the students of sul ross state college alpine, texas co-editors JERRY STOICHEFF JIM STOICHEFF A Gift for You... Today ' s world is one of speed and slang, hubbub and holocaust. Since your yearbook is a memory, a path to bygone halcyon days, we have attempted to inject a stateliness and warmth into your Brand so that in days to come you might take a sedate and pleasure¬ ful stroll into the happiness of college days. If we have succeeded, a bedecked package ribboned in blue is placed in your hands. If we have failed, time has been kept abreast in place of being bridged. The Brand staff hopes this book will serve you as a bridge to parted friends, to long-ago incidents of won¬ der, to sunny days of laughter, to blue dia¬ mond skies of calm and peace. Here is our bridge to a year. CUaaaJ Learning is ever in the freshness of its youth , even for the old. —Aeschylus Table of Contents Introductory Faculty Facades Classes Activities Athletics Personalities Campusology Organizations MAIN... Here is the nub, the nucleus, our watershed. Business home of the Administration, the Sciences, the Languages, the Social Sciences, the Mathematics, the Industrial Arts. This is where the raindrops fall and begin their leaping trek to the plunging river of degrees and maturity. Dr. G. P. Smith discusses with collegiates, grade and high school proteges, erudites, and enthusiastic towns-followers of our school the probability of a Sul Ross Homecoming football victory. Fires of Fall bum bright on this our CAMPUS Sul Ross cheer leaders and twirlers guide a pep-swelled throng to huzzahs, yells, and merriment . . . the raindrops have blended into large globules and now fuse into countless tiny rivulets. Racket thocks and ten-pin smacks echo across the sand burrs to the gym¬ nasium field-house where volleyball slaps and sweating, pliant young muscles abound in a vigorous din. Gymnasium Frontier Playgrounds Perspiration from the tennis courts is eased in blissful immersion at the three-year-old college swimming pool. Aggregates of lusty, budding Weis- muller-types trudge over a refreshed trail to the school cafeteria for tasty, plate-emptying replenishment. . . and the consolidation advances steadily as the tiny rivulets swell slow and sure into thin but definite coursing streams. i Even as the young scholars resemble their pedagogic exemplars, so also do they resemble each other ' s homes. Above is President Wildenthal ' s home; below is one of the cottages where married Sul Ross students reside. Both homes are brick; both homes en¬ trench families; both homes house swollen rivers of learning. One river is a staid and full and sure Mississippi; the other is a wild and racing adolescent Milk . Both go forward to apex at later dates, at more even rates, in the mother ocean of knowledge fulfillment. God bless, when winds blow, Our home and all we know. — Bone Ferguson Hall Lawrence Hall BOARD of REGENTS Shown in conference are all of the members of the Board of Regents for the Teachers Colleges of Texas, a group which diligently and unselfishly strives in behalf of Sul Ross and her sister colleges.
