; i E- K I I I SUL ROSS STATE COLLEGE ALPINE, TEXAS i .1 $ FOREWORD We feel that our own Sul Ross State Col¬ lege, situated as it is in the picturesque and rugged Davis mountain terrain, is sort of a Last Frontier which has not yet succumbed to the smug sophistication and harried exist¬ ence of many of our Eastern cousins. Somehow, too, we feel that the huge cup we possess as the result of repeated rodeo conquests is symbolic of our eminence in the realm of the open country. We have tried here to capture some of this spirit as we have labored to portray the story of another school year on the Hill. In years to come, as you turn these pages, we hope you will enjoy them more and more. DEDICATION Of all the citizens of our campus none do so much for so little as do the wives of the faculty. Outstanding among these is Mrs. R. M. Hawkins, wife of our president, in whose home students are always welcome. A woman of intelligence, wit, and good taste, she takes an active interest in all social events, gives unselfishly of her unlimited talents to the decoration and beautification of Sul Ross buildings and campus, and keeps her mind and heart close to the general student life of the college. It is to her, Stella Hallmark Hawkins, and through her to all the ladies of Sul Ross who make college life more pleasant, that the 1952 BRAND is gratefully dedicated.
