DEAN OF STUDENT LIFE SELD0N C ■ ROBINSON Dean of Women

Page 32 text:

Dean of College Dr T. H. Etheridge Message from the Dean The school year of 1946-47 has been one of remarkable change and adjustment. The largest enrollment in the history of Sul Ross State Teachers College has affected the Institution profoundly, especially since the majority of students are men for the first time in her history. This has meant necessary changes in housing accommodations, in that a girls’ dormitory has been taken over completely by men students with a concentration of girls in one building. “Toonerville,” and the Airbase housing have further produced changes in Sul Ross student life. Despite all this, is is a matter of pride and pleasant reflection, both to the faculty and the students themselves, that a fine spirit of cooperation and an honest effort at mutual help¬ fulness have permeated the school, at all times. Despite lack of books and shortages in equipment, at the first of the year, both students and teachers carried on in a fine spirit of patient understanding. Such an attitude in the fall made the work in the spring a pleasant school experience. With an enlarged student group came an increase in the faculty. New faces and new ideas made an advance in both the number of offerings and in the enrichment of the school courses. In future years these professors will look back on their first experiences in this institution with delight as well as will the students who have enjoyed their tuition. This year marks the resumption of intercollegiate sports, particularly that monarch of students’ sports, Football. Basketball again came into its own. The tfand thrilled us with strains of sweet music and delight¬ ful convolutions. All this will be grist for our memories. To those who will be welcomed back to Alma Mater next year, this Brand will be an earnest of happy school da vs to come; to Seniors who will go out from her sacred halls, it will be a golden page of memories, a sign of benediction. With a sincere wish for the happiness and success of everyone, it is a high honor to have a part in send¬ ing the Brand on its mission. T. H. Etheridge, Dean
