MY FRIENDS: THE YEAR IS DONE! You have discovered that a true college is a place where the spirit of youth finds a chance to experiment with life, to listen to the noblest voices of the past, to tune in with the voices of the present, as well as to heed the inner call of youth itself. Sul Ross has furnished you a beautiful world of friendships and an ideal forum for developing character, the keenest sympathy for all good causes, and a sense of brotherhood which knows no limit of faith, nation, vocation, or pro¬ fession. You stand on the threshold of a new era. As pioneers of a new century in the history of Texas, you are trail-blazers in a new era that has for its ulti¬ mate goal the solution of problems, economic, social, governmental, spiritual, that confronts the world today. There is need for positive convictions on mat¬ ters of basic right and wrong. I know you will meet the challenge. To work with you has been a delightful privilege. It is my sincere wish that you will remember with pleasure and satisfaction your years in this—your college. Sincerely your friend. R. M. HAWKINS, President
