In appreciation of our President, Dr. Horace W. Morelock, we dedicate this annual of 1945. His most recent and unexpected resignation has moved us deeply. Through his undying efforts, for the past 23 years, Sul Ross has grown from one lonesome building to a cam¬ pus of many, with a promise of more. Known and loved as Prexy, he has been one of the instigators of the Big Bend International Park— for which he has achieved wide acclaim. The guiding principles which characterize his life will remain forever in the minds of Sul Ross students. THE BRAND STAFF

VuAmnq- 9a Vhe fCeifA- The keys on my ring have increased in number from year to year since 1923. They have been an open sesame for me into every material building on the campus since that time. But to me they signify more than a means of ingress into and an egress from physical buildings. They.symbol¬ ize the courage of a faculty that has struggled for a quarter of a century in the face of seemingly insurmountable difficulties to build a great educational institution on the last frontier of Texas. These pioneers had the inspira¬ tion of a missionary and the vision of a prophet, and they did not count the personal cost inci¬ dental to achieving this goal. Their dreams and hopes were begin¬ ning to bear fruit when World War Number Two interrupted their ef¬ forts. Then they trans¬ ferred their training and their enthusiasm to serving the armed forces in this section. I am turning in my physical keys as of August 31, 1945. But I am retaining for mem¬ ory ' s chest those spiri¬ tual keys that gave me an opportunity to un¬ lock the hearts of more than eight thousand stu¬ dents who have entered the sanctuary of Sul Ross since 1923. This group of ambitious and loyal spirits has co¬ operated with us in building an educational institution unique in student-faculty comradeship and in mutual trust. This heritage will linger with me until the evening sunset. Those who come after me and the faculty members who are added one by one will fashion new keys to unlock doors leading into a great art studio on our campus, a Pan-American house for promoting international relations; a science building for utilizing the laboratories of geology and biology in this section, a health- education building with assets of an ideal climate, and a beautiful campus interlaced with topped driveways bordered with native plants. An Inter-National Park skirting Sul Ross campus will make your Alma Mater well and favorably known far and wide. I am grateful for the opportunity I have had in assisting loyal faculty members and students in building a great culture and service center for the Big Bend of Texas. Carry on. Adios, Amigos! Sincerely yours, H. W. Morelock, President
