Drawn together by mutual interests, the mem- bers of Suitland's clubs and organizations worked collectively to provide the background of the understanding of their fellow students which helped them to enjoy their high school years more fully. Thus, they have developed a setting in our story of Suitlaml. Elected by the student body to represent and lead them, the Student Council with the guiding assistance of their sponsor, Nlrs. l'1'5 de. has presided over Suitland making 1959-60 a mem- orable school year. As a representative body the Student Council has regulated and planned student activities, provided a place for learning to work together and exchanging ideas, and has co-ordinated the student body, faculty and administration. The many varied activities of the Student Council include the Cel :Xcquainted Dance and Tea, the Sock Hop, Sadie Haw- kins Dance. a joint March of Dimes and lied Cross Drive, and the highly successful Toys for Tots Drive in which over 5,000 toys were contributed and repaired for needy children at Christ- mas. ln addition the Council has provided bus transportation for away basketball games, sold Suitland pennants and beanies, distributed schedule cards for games, chartered clubs, put up the Hall of Fame showcase, and sold eokes and hot dogs at games.
