Here the simi- larity ends, however. Honoring students who excel in some phase of jour- nalism is the purpose of Quill and Scroll. ln addition to showing superior accomplishment in the field of journal- ism, a Quill and Scroll member must posses other qualifications. He must be in the top third of his class, be a junior or senior, and have written 100 inches of copy. . Press Bureau members, Phyllis Trail and Mary XVolfe, assist ,ludy Byrd, editor, in writing bulletins for local newspapers. Ann lfllin, Doris Muller, Gordon Piseacelt, and Carole Sturtevant were indicated in their junior year at the annual -journalism Banquet. The Press Bureau is formed for the purpose of pro- moting puhlicity for Suitland. Informing students and parents of school activities is the main purpose of the school paper, the ECHO. In addition to putting the paper out twelve times a year, the ECHO workers, together with the ARIES staff sold subscriptions and advertising space, and put on the first ECHO-ARIES Hop. The executive staff, headed by Sid Knock, editor- in-chiefg Carol Sturtevant and Carol Haina, assistant editorsg Doris Muller, business manager: Barbara Brown, managing editor, and aided by their co-- workers worked many hours to meet each deadline.
